I have just been in Caswell County NC researching some of my early Browning ancestors and some of the information I found mystifies me. Can anyone tell me where to find documentation on the identity of the following? (1) Francis Browning who appears on the following records: 1777 Caswell County State Census Index in St. Lukes District 8 Jun 1778 Caswell County land grant, 100 acres on Storeys Creek 20 Dec 1779 Witnessed a deed for 115 acres on Storeys Creek from Joshua Browning to John Atkinson. 21 Dec 1779 Caswell County Court Minutes: A deed from Francis Browning to John Atkinson for 150 acres was acknowledged and ordered to be registered. 1780 St. Lukes District tax records; he does not appear on any other tax lists from 1781-1796. 1 Oct 1786 Witnessed a deed for 194 acres in Caswell County from Jessey Vermillion of Virginia and Coby Russell to Abraham Hargas, Jr., of Caswell County.
