The estate records of Robert BRUCE in Caswell Co., NC (who seems to have been the same Robert BRUCE on the 1782 Tax List of Pittsylvania with a family of 11 white persons?,) show John TRAVIS receiving for David TULLOCH David's portion of the legacy of Robert BRUCE, who died 1791 in Caswell, and his wife, Elizabeth, who was deceased by 1806 in Caswell. The estate sale records for John CHILTON's estate were attended by two TRAVIS men: John TRAVIS and James TRAVIS. Does anyone have more information on TRAVISes in Caswell? My John TRAVIS was recorded on the 1821 Tax List of Pittsylvania Co, VA with 3 sons and 6 daughters, all born before 1811. John was over 45 years of age on this List. One of John TRAVIS' daughters was Ellender (or Eleanor, Ellen), who married John D. STONE in Pittsylvania in 1822. John STONE's father d. 1811 in Caswell Co., NC; he appears to have Epaphroditus (Epephroditus, etc.) STONE, who apparently died at a young age. (Another son of Epaphroditus, whose wife was Lucy, was Tilman Stone, also recorded in Caswell.) I have not located the will of John TRAVIS---he did not die in Pittsylvania, as far as I can tell (nor did James, that I know of.) I feel sure some of the later Caswell Travises come from John? John TRAVIS may? be connected to William TRAVIS, who was recorded on the 1782 Tax List of Pittsylvania Co., VA with a household of 9 white persons. Hello, Charles According to Maud Carter Clement's History of Pittsylvania Co VA, the will of Major William BEAVERS was probated in 1822 in Pittsylvania Co VA. This will names the testator's sons as William BEAVERS, Edwin R. BEAVERS and John Fontaine BEAVERS, and it names the testator's daughter as Mary GATEWOOD. The will also names the testator's wife's mother as Mrs. Elizabeth FONTAINE. I do not know where Nancy MCDANIEL BEAVERS, wife of this testator, died. However, I do know that she predeceased her husband. Her parents, William MCDANIEL and Ann SMITH, lived in Pittsylvania Co VA, but very near to the Virginia-North Carolina state line, and within a stone's throw of Caswell Co NC. (They also owned much land in Halifax Co VA, which borders both Pittsylvania Co VA and Caswell Co NC.) Nancy MCDANIEL married the testator Major William BEAVERS under a Pittsylvania Co VA Marriage Bond dated 8 February 1790; the bondsman for this marriage was named as Daniel PRICE, and the mother of the bride was named as Ann MCDANIEL. The only one of the testator's children that I'm sure was Nancy's child is son William BEAVERS, who was born in about 1792. Nancy MCDANIEL BEAVERS may also have been the mother of Edwin R. BEAVERS and Mary BEAVERS GATEWOOD, but "Edwin" is not a forename we see in the MCDANIEL family, so it's hard to tell. The testator's son John Fontaine BEAVERS was a child of the testator's last wife, Elizabeth FONTAINE, whom he had married under a Pittsylvania Co VA marriage bond dated 1 March 1802. Elizabeth FONTAINE was a daughter of Moses FONTAINE and Elizabeth BALLARD; Elizabeth BALLARD FONTAINE is named in the will of the testator, Major William BEAVERS. If you want to see that 1822 will, you can approach the Courthouse of Pittsylvania Co VA, or you can order a microfilm of the will book through your local LDS Family History Centre and read the will yourself. It would be helpful for me to tell you which will book it is in, but I do not know this myself; I took this second-hand from Clement's book. If this were my own ancestor, however, I would never leave it at that; I'd make sure that I saw the original will, because secondary sources do not always abstract wills accurately. I do not have in my files a William BEAVERS born within a decade either way of 1807, but this is a collateral line for me, too, so that does not mean that this William BEAVERS does not attach here in some way. William MCDANIEL and Ann SMITH are my direct ancestors, but through their daughter Chloe T. MCDANIEL, who married William COLEMAN. I was unaware that any of the children of William MCDANIEL and Ann SMITH had lived in North Carolina, although I suppose it is possible. I've been told that some of their children moved to Tennessee and that at least one died in Mississippi. Some, such as my line, remained in Virginia. In the next generation, some of the grandchildren of William MCDANIEL and Ann SMITH did live in Caswell Co NC, I believe. Surnames: Williamson, Lee or Lea Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/RSB.2ACE/1645 Message Board Post: This is an update of a previous posting. I'm looking for parents and siblings of Thomas Jefferson Williamson, born (according to family record) in "Kingston," North Carolina September 12, 1820 or September 14, 1821 and died in Vandalia, MO July 17, 1904. T.J. Williamson married Mary Pluma Spencer in Adams County, Illinois in 1839 AND October 22, 1840 in Caswell County, NC. Mary Pluma Spencer was born in W. Hartford, CN Jan 26, 1818 and is the daughter of Moses Roswell Spencer and Alma Flagg. Her branch of the family settled in Adams County and owned much farmland there, in Iowa and in MO. I am descended from one of their daughters, Lucillia Isabella Williamson, who married William Wood December 20, 1868 in Ralls County, MO. TJ Williamson and Mary Pluma Spencer are both buried in Fern Chapel Cemetery in Ralls County, MO. This family record states that his father was Dr. Anthony Williamson, born in Virginia in 1799 and that his mother was Elizabeth Lee/Lea who was also born in! Virginia in 1800. There was an Anthony Williamson and Elizabeth Kerr Lea in Caswell County in the early-mid 1800s, but no record shows that they had a son by the name of T.J. Williamson. They likely had relatives who also lived in TN, possibly Madison County. There is a Dr. Anthony Williamson who is buried in Denmark, Madison County, TN who would be about the right age of the Anthony mentioned above. I have some descendant records but no ancestral records for T.J. Williamson, Anthony Williamson, or Elizabeth Lee. Census records reveal no helpful information. Any leads are very appreciated as this has been an enigma to me. I have many ancestral and descendant records for the Spencers going back to the mid 1400s in England.

My Turney was originally out of Shenandoah Valley of VA to eastern TN (NC then), 1780s-to about 1803 in Hawkins Co TN, then to Clear Forks in Smith Co TN. The North Carlina Henry Turney was probably the one born in Maryland, then the family moved to NC but I have not found them in NC.....his Rev War pension states he grew up in North Carolina and fought with a unit out of there. So your list is a real clue where I should look....just hope it is Turney and not Turner as they often mixed those up. I also notice the King name, think some of them were early to Kentucky. I am searching for information on ELIZABETH RICHMOND, born in the 1790's in NC. In 1812 she married BENJAMIN GRISHAM/GRISSOM in Sumner County, TN. Also in Sumner at the time was a LEVI RICHMOND. Believe Levi was probably Elizabeth's younger brother, or some such relation. Elizabeth was related by marriage to the DORRIS family. I know that pre 1800 the DORRIS family was in Caswell, as was a RICHMOND family, though I don't know if the later is related to my Elizabeth and Levi. Would welcome and appreciate any information on these folks, and of course, will be very happy to share what I have. Thanks for your time. Jenny at eddnick@aol.com
