I have a couple of old maps of Caswell County, but not all of the creeks and landmarks are identified. Does anyone know the general or specific location of Shaw's Creek? Where is it in relation to Tom's Creek and Stoney Creek? Thanks! -- Danene Vincent HOMEPAGE http://www.ionet.net/~keylime/index.html TNGENWEB Project, Sumner County, TN: http://www.tngenweb.org/sumner/
Jim, I don't know if these Walkers will match up or not, but here goes. My ancestors were Leonard and Sarah Kimbrough Brown. They had a Thomas Brown who married Salley Morris on 15-Dec-1795. Thomas and Salley had a son Nathan Brown b. 22-Feb-1809 d. 19-Aug-1888 who married Mary Walker b. ca 1817 d. 22-Sep-1847. Mary was the daughter of Hugh and Frances Walker. Nathan and Mary had one daughter Sarah F. Brown b. ca 1844 d. bef 1890 who supposedly married William Walker. I can't verify this last marriage, but am pretty confident of the Nathan and Mary Walker marriage. After Thomas died, there was a lengthy estate settlement that involved many Caswell County surnames. I have copied of old papers re: the settlement. I really don't think this group was anywhere near Moon's Creek. But, a Brown may have married a Walker from that area. Wish I could tell you more! I would love to hear from anyone researching the early BROWN families of Caswell County, NC. My ancestor Leonard Brown moved to Caswell probably around 1764. He married Sarah Kimbrough, daughter of Thomas and Eleanor Graves Kimbrough. I believe they married in Orange County, VA and probably had at least their first child, Eleanor Brown who married William Dorris, Jr., in Virginia. Leonard got his land grant in 1778 on the South Fork of Country Line Creek. Adjacent to his land on the west a William Brown received a land grant for 500 acres. This Wm. Brown appears to have been a Cooper. I've not been able to determine the relationship between Leonard and William. Then, in 1787 another William Brown received a land grant for 504 acres just to the south of the first William Brown. The land owners around Leonard and the two William Brown were Basil Davis, Luke Pendergast, William Rice, John Rice, Henry Williams, Hudson Berry, and Morton (first name unknown). Finally, does anyone have a good old map that tells the location of the following: Stoney Creek, Shaw's Creek, Tom's Creek, and Moon's Creek?
