Seeking to connect with anyone researching Carter or Wilkerson lines from Caswell County, NC. Although Enoch Jeremiah Carter married Susannah Wilkerson in Greene County, TN, in 1794, I believe both of them may have been raised in Caswell County. Susannah was the daughter of Samuel Wilkerson (b. abt. 1700) and Dorcas Elemon of Frederick County, Maryland. Samuel became a Quaker in order to marry Dorcas Elemon in abt. 1735. Four of his sons -- Thomas, Francis, William, and John -- fought in the American Revolutionary War. Samuel Wilkerson's daughters were Ann, Catherine, Fanny, Elizabeth, and Susannah. Samuel Wilkerson was granted 150 acres of land on both side of Negres or Negro Creek in Caswell County, North Carolina, on Mar. 23, 1779. He also owned land on the Clinch River in Russell County, Virginia. Samuel Wilkerson's will was probated Oct. 28, 1781, in Caswell County, North Carolina. I know much less about Enoch Carter -- only that his birth date is probably 1766 or 1767. Yours truly, David Orr http://home.earthlink.net/~davidorr/family/
I am researching the family of my G-G-G-G-Grandfather Samuel Woods of Caswell Co., NC. He lived in Hightowers twp. (SE corner of Co.) on the South Hico River. His will was written in June 1792 and filed for probate in September Court 1793. (Page 80, Will Book 3, Person Co. NC) Listed in will are wife Mary, Sons Andrew, William, John, Samuel, Thomas, and James. (My G-G-G-Grandfather) Listed in the probate are also daughters Margaret (Peggy) wife of William Richmond, and Mary (Polly) wife of Joseph D. Hughes (of Orange Co.) James Woods was married to Elenor Brown and had Williamson B. Woods, Robert W. Woods (my G-G-Grandfather), Romulas Yancy Woods, Sarah Anne (married to Wm. Fitzgerald) and Mary Jane Levina (married to Franklin Morgan). Robert W. and Romulas Y. Woods moved to Greene (now Hale) Co. Alabama around 1850. James sold his property in Hightowers twp. mid 1850's and made his will in Greene Co. in March 1856 right before he died. Would like to hear from anyone connected with this family or with information on family members or roots. Shelley Gregory [email protected]

The names of ages of the slaves and the names of the heirs of the estate are in the record again. My surnames Neeley/Neely listed in Caswell, Orange & Person Counties The Official Neeley website is http://www.genweb.net/~neeley [online database] & some history. mailing list is [email protected] Rootsweb GenConnect message board http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/Neeley Thanks, Pauline -- The birthplace of William Neely is not known yet. However, it is known that he owned land on the northeast form of the Flat River in what was then Orange County North Carolina as early as June 1756. This land corresponds in description to that which is described in his will. This location is not in Person County, North Carolina. Person County was formed from Caswell County in 1791, nine years after the death of William Neely. Caswell County was formed from Orange County in 1777. The land on the northeast fork of the Flat River did not change only the county names. -- **************************************** Merry Christmas Pauline Phelps Bakersfield CA 93304 ========================================== The Past is History. Samuel WALKER died in 1797 leaving a will which named his wife, Elenor, son James, daughters, Elizabeth COBB, Jean KING, Agnes ORR and Elinor Walker. Also named grandsons Samuel and James to which he left his land on Moons Creek. The grandsons sold their land to their uncle Orr once they were adults. We know that James left with his wife Elizabeth ELLIOTT and went to Robertson Co., TN. Elizabeth COBB married Noah and lived in Rockingam Co, NC where a family record was found. Jean's husband, Robert "Robin" was an executor for Samuel's will. They and the ORRs appear to have stayed close to Moon's Creek. Samuel bought some of his land from a John WALKER, thought to be of the Wigton, Scotland Walkers. We haven't been able to connect the two families after years of trying. One possibility is that Samuel came from Cumberland Co., PA. He probably settled in Caswell Co. while it was still Orange Co. We know that he is not the same Samuel that lived on Sandy Creek. Other Walkers lived in the area and we have much information concerning those families as well. We'd love to welcome any Walker researcher to our small group. We have piles of documentation that we'd be happy to share as well. Mary Ann
Hello Charla, Yes we will talk after Christmas. I have the estate file of William Walker. He died intestate. The only children named were Elizabeth who md my William Smith, a George Walker md ?, and a Joseph McCulloch parents unknown who married Nancy Walker. It looks like Daniel Walker would be the wrong generation, unless its a second marriage, but it is likely there is a connection...William Walker had a number of brothers. Also since William Walker died intestate, I think all his living children would be named . Am very interested in what you have about Edmiston....I have nothing. Hi, Anyone on the list searching Cardwell's or have any info on them. Also anyone who does lookups in Caswell? Denise Wood
Mandy, You need to be on the Guilford list as well. Our family ties into Summers from the early 1700's and there is a guy, Larry Noah, who has a site with all kinds of Summers stuff. I will try to find it for you. Also the "Brick" list, Larry is list owner for that. It stands for the Brick church in Guilford were there were many Summers. Many of them are buried in Frieden's Cemetary (Frieden's Church) in Guilford. Do you know where that is? It's great that there's a Caswell county discussion group getting started. I belong to a group of researchers that have been digging around this county for years. We're mainly interested in the WALKER, ELLIOTT, COBB, ORR, KING families and any others that lived near to them on Moon's Creek. Some of their land also backed up to Hogan's Creek. My Walker line left around 1800 for Robertson Co., TN. I'm looking for any MOORE connections in Caswell Co. around that time. So, if you're interested in any of those families contact me and maybe we can share some info. Mary Ann
