On the 1850 Caswell Co census, there is a large listing of many people, adults as well as children. A notation on the side says Somerville Institute. Was this a school? Does anyone know anything about this? Thanks! John Boswell Davis was born in 1756 in MD. According to his pension application, he moved as a young child with his family from Prince George's Co to what was then Orange Co NC. He married ca 1784. I have been told he married a Sarah Hill. I do not have or know what the proof was for her name. However, one of his grandsons was named Matthew Hill Davis. Do we have anyone on the list working the Hill family in Caswell/Orange Co? Does anyone know of a connection between the Davis family and the Hill family? Thanks for any help! Does anyone know the location of Rutledge Creek in Caswell County? My ancestor entered land there in 1770's, and I cannot find where it is located. Thanks, Sylvia
The below letter is worthy of your attention, if nothing more than to read it. It was published in the N.C. S.C. Rootsweb. Perhaps some of you didn't see it, so here it is if you care to contribute your marriage research to help others who are limited to the internet for research. Neat Date: Mon, 15 Feb 1999 12:21:32 -0500 From: Elizabeth Harris <[email protected]> Subject: new NC Marriages Database MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" A belated Valentine's present for all of North Carolina! I am delighted to announce the brand-new NC Marriages Database for NCGenWeb: http://tn-1.rootsweb.com/~marce/ncarolina/index.html Marceline Beem did the scripts for this new feature, and it is really neat. I think you'll like it. Sonya Woosley entered the marriage records from Judith Manley's 500k text file that we've been using for several years, and I added some marriages from my personal files and from Quaker and Moravian church records. Altogether we have just about 5000 records now, and I feel sure it's going to grow rapidly. Enjoy! We're still considering this as a beta test version, so please report any problems either to Marceline Beem ([email protected]) or to me ([email protected]). Elizabeth Harris [email protected]

On 25 Dec 1834, Sarah Davis married Stephen Haddock in Caswell Co, NC. On the 1850 census for Caswell Co, Sarah Haddock is listed as head of household, no children listed with her. I would like to know : 1. When she became a widow, if she was 2. Names of any children 3. When she died and place of burial Sarah was the daughter of John Boswell Davis. My descent is through her brother David.
