I was looking for Hettie Bragg and she found that Caroline had a daughter named Jane. Then she showed up as Hettie on the next census. Hettie J. was my great grandmother and Alfred was her brother. My grandmother (Florence Bragg Smith) did live in Craven County - New Bern. But her mother (Hettie) lived in Carteret County- Beaufort. My mother (Helen Smith Leary) remembers that she was 7 years old and "Uncle Alfred" as they called him came to live with them a short while as he was very sick and he died somewhere around 1932. My mom states that he did live in New Bern with my grandmother before she got married. I also know that my grandmother called him Papa - from what I can gather he left Beaufort with my grandmother and moved to New Bern. Then he moved to Georgia after my grandmother got married. When he got sick he came back. ! He is buried in Cedar Grove Cemetary in New Bern. There is no marker on the grave but I know where the plot is. I found information on him at the library in New Bern in the old Episopal Church records. Then I was able to track down the funeral home who buried him and found the burial records at the court house. I will dig up the exact info and send to you.
