She only knows this from her sister who is now deceased as Mom was only 3 at the time. We don't have much on him either. But best we can determine he never married, but that doesn't mean he didn't have any children. It seems a lot of the Bragg men and women didn't marry, but they did have kids.

My father was very mine-set in me not looking till he was Gone as he put it. But I did tell him that I would look an he thought if that was what I wanted then do it. On Manly's marriage bone as I told you Alfred Bragg is down as his father and when I first talked to Ellen as she said we were going with who his mother is down as Dorothy Fulcher, still looking for her, now some people in Morehead called Manly (Blunt) why we don't know so when I got thier marriage bone I was supose to see Bragg. Once again I do thank you for getting back with me . As I find out more if before you do I will let you know. Again Thanks, Joyce.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/BVB.2ACI/948.3.1.1.2 Message Board Post: Hey Joyce, here is what I have been able to piece together about Alfred Bragg once Ellen let me know the names of Caroline Bragg's children. I was looking for Hettie Bragg and she found that Caroline had a daughter named Jane. Then she showed up as Hettie on the next census. Hettie J. was my great grandmother and Alfred was her brother. My grandmother (Florence Bragg Smith) did live in Craven County - New Bern. But her mother (Hettie) lived in Carteret County- Beaufort. My mother (Helen Smith Leary) remembers that she was 7 years old and "Uncle Alfred" as they called him came to live with them a short while as he was very sick and he died somewhere around 1932. My mom states that he did live in New Bern with my grandmother before she got married. I also know that my grandmother called him Papa - from what I can gather he left Beaufort with my grandmother and moved to New Bern. Then he moved to Georgia after my grandmother got married. When he got sick he came back. ! He is buried in Cedar Grove Cemetary in New Bern. There is no marker on the grave but I know where the plot is. I found information on him at the library in New Bern in the old Episopal Church records. Then I was able to track down the funeral home who buried him and found the burial records at the court house. I will dig up the exact info and send to you.

It refers to only two wives, first Mary Turner and second Prudence Stowe (1816-1654). It names 11 children "born of these two marriages": Nancy Ann, Rebecca, Sidney, Edith, Katherine, Sarah, John, Henry Clay, Ann Mariah, Jane Elizabeth, and Martha. It has information on eight of the children. If the earlier post you mention was from me, I don't know where I got "Patience" from (could have been a slip). I don't have these Lockharts in my family tree and have not researched them. I did, however, know some of the family. Henry Clay, William Clyde and my grandfather, Asa Gaskins, built the first school house in Camp Glenn (formerly Carolina City) in 1907 so there children would have a place nearby to go to school. I went to that school, but not the original building, which until 2002 was home of the Carteret County Historical Society. I can scan the article and send it to you later, if you want. Bob Lewis

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/BVB.2ACI/1008 Message Board Post: The Robert Lewis reply on Charles Henry Lockhart states that his parents were Daniel Henry Lockhart and Patience Stowe. This appears to be the Daniel Lockhart who lived in New Bern, Craven County. The Heritage of Craven County Vol I lists the children of Daniel and Prudence (Patience?) and also mentions a first wife "Mary Turner" with one child Nancy Anne Lockhart. Believe there was a second daughter Sidney A. Lockhart that married Isaac Lewis in New Bern since Isaac Lewis was the Bondsman for Nancy Anne and John B. Lewis. They also lived on the same street in New Bern. Does anyone have access to the Heritage of Carteret County Vol II that has an article on Daniel Henry Lockhart. Does it mention multiple wives and children of each marriage. I have also found an obituary that states that Daniel Lockhart was the husband of Elizabeth Thomas Lockhart who died in 1836.
