    3. You won't want to miss the next Conference in the States, sponsored by the National Genealogical Society, when the nation's genealogists will come together in Raleigh. The conference will be held in the new Raleigh Convention Center on 13–16 May 2009. The North Carolina Genealogical Society is the local sponsor of this national conference. October 10, 2008 at the Gateway Conference Center in Hickory, NC, for the NCSH. She will delight us with mountain ballads, the gentle tone of the dulcimer, and stories of long ago and ... not too far away! Ms, Smith was awarded the Bascom Lamar Lunsford Award for significant contribution to the folk traditions of the Southern Mountains and was the NCSH Historian of the Year in 2000. She has been recorded by Folk Legacy Records, June Appal Records and Bluff Mountain Music, and has written curriculum for Open Court Publishers and Children’s Music Workshop.
