    3. Folks, After a great deal of work on behalf of Ann Propst and myself, the Cleveland County WPA cemetery survey has been posted on the Cleveland County Cemetery page: http://www.ncgenweb.us/cleveland/cemeteries.htm (click on Cleveland County Cemeteries-Master Index) This represents over 500 entries that were only previously available on a CD (http://www.hartshorn.us/CWPA.htm). Also included is a consolidation of contemporary cemetery surveys. This was done so that a search engine (provided by FreeFind) could be used for all published cemetery listings of Cleveland County. Over the years, many old burial grounds have fallen into an unkept condition or outright abandonment. To say that these are threatened is an understatement. In many cases, the WPA surveys were the last accounts made of these cemeteries This cemetery listing has been an attempt to consolidate the surveys taken by the WPA during the period of 1938-1940 together with the cemeteries that have been gratefully contributed to the Cleveland County Archives by many thoughtful folks, not the least of these being Mr. W.D. "Bill" Floyd (http://www.ncgenweb.us/cleveland/WDFloyd.htm). What may appear as duplicate entries are surveys that represent a snapshot in time. The earlier (WPA) surveys, when compared with the later surveys (1997-2003) will demonstrate the deterioration and loss of stones that no longer appear on the later listings. For this reason, later generations can appreciate the efforts done to provide information that might have been forever lost. In addition to the verbatim transcription of the WPA records, Ann Propst, transcriber, has added notes of correction and observation available no where else on the web. The entire listing of cemeteries and related historical information is still available on CD (http://www.hartshorn.us/CWPA.htm). In addition to the recorded burials made by WPA workers, there is an amazing amount of history provided by Cleveland County historians of 70 years ago. The user is encouraged to browse these historic sites for information that would not otherwise be available in a cemetery survey.
