These are Burke and Macon County NC Angels and Wilsons. Elizabeth Angel is listed as head of household in the 1840 Macon County NC census. In her household are "other free persons of color". Most likely the reason the Wilsons went to Missouri in 1819 is because they were part Cherokee and moved west as agreed to in the treaties of 1817 and 1819. Look for your ancestors on the Cherokee Reservation Rolls. They went to Missouri because earlier migrations of Cherokee had gone to that area. The oral history of the Wilsons from Martin Wilson of Missouri, sorry can't think of the town name now, is that the Wilsons were seven brothers who were "Privateers" in the war between England and Spain. (1600-1602?). To reward them for their service to the crown of England, the King granted them land on this (U.S. continent). They were supposed to land and go for seven miles to their left and seven miles to their right and as far inland as they could go, and claim that land. I am quite sure the native indians had other ideas about that! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
