Dear List: There are rumors in our family that we have Cherokee Indian ancestry. No one seems to know for sure, but we believe my grandmother was from that line. Although it could also be on my grandfather side. Both lines go back to North Carolina. Can anyone tell me if there are libraries or historical societies that have marriage records before 1840.
