    3. Hi, Derick: Hope you're not as overwhelmed with 'stuff' as I am right now! Between genealogy and church work, I feel like the little mouse on the wheel! I looked at the Bastardy Bonds site. It's the work of the Camins as published by them a number of years ago. Who is Elizabeth Pope? I don't see any relation she has with the site or the info. Lib Michaels told me today that she'd checked and Betty Camin died this spring (website says she was in a nursing home). It seems from the site that her husband has put up Betty's genealogy work for folks to use at will. Betsy has a few bones to pick with the info on the BB site. Her use of the same records indicates that there are plenty of transcription errors. Lib tells me of an example in her family where 3 of the four names are mis-read. Wonder if we could (or should) put any kind of 'use at own risk' warning or something like that? I do think that it's better than having nothing at all, but lots of users probably take it as absolutely correct and run with it, especially since checking the originals involves that nice trip to Raleigh. The other thing we might note is that it only goes through 1878, so there are a number of the bonds that were not included (the Camins did so with the stated purpose of respecting the privacy of folks perhaps still living or recently deceased). I had just examined the Camin site the other day myself (more of that Lail work), so I immediately saw the data was familiar and noted the URL was the Camins'. We got a note from the genealogy society (Old Tryon or Cleveland Co.--don't remember which) which was read at the Board meeting last week. Seems the new owners of Mr. Floyd's ISP took down the site...must have wanted more money or something. Take care of yourself. 3. I erred when I made the assumption that the link to NC Bastardy bonds was "clean," The one who sent me the link was also taken in by the word "transcription." I have de-linked the site and have replaced it with links to the Camin site. The Burke County site is: http://home.earthlink.net/~bcamin/bbonds/burke.htm The Catawba County site is: http://home.earthlink.net/~bcamin/bbonds/catawba.htm The Cleveland County site: http://home.earthlink.net/~bcamin/bbonds/clevelan.htm The Camin site contains Bastardy Bonds for other counties outside of our area. I apologize for the error and subsequent confusion. --Derick >I looked at the Bastardy Bonds site. It's the work of the Camins as >published by them a number of years ago. Who is Elizabeth Pope?
