She was born April 14, 1908, in Burke County and was the daughter of the late C.G. Barber and Addie Mae Morrow Barber. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her first husband, Carl Milton Ross, and her second husband, Paul Alexander Mabe Sr.; a daughter, Wanda Ross; brothers, Gilford and Marvin Barber; and sisters, Roseylee Barber and Florence Fine. For many years, Pearl was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she participated in many church activities. She was a former member of First Advent Christian Church. Pearl was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother. She is survived by: a son and his wife, Kenneth and Jewell Ross of Morganton; daughters and their husbands, Nancy R. and Leroy McFalls, and Marquean R. and Eugene Cole, all of Morganton; sisters, Sara Barber and Viola Brandon, both of Morganton, and Lilly Wiles of Hickory; a stepson, Dr. Paul Mabe Jr., and his wife, Grace, of Reidsville; grandchildren, Stephen Cole, Mark McFalls and Dwayne Ross; great-grandchildren, Anna and Dan McFalls, and Jonathan and Lyndsee Ross; and step-grandchildren, Dr. Paul A. Mabe III and Carol L. Mabe. The funeral was held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church with the Revs. Larry Thompson and James Taber officiating. Burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery. The family received friends Wednesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 407 S. Green St., Morganton, N.C. 28655.
