I just finished reading a story of how Newland LeFevers stabbed Edwin C. "Alabama" Pitts on june 6, 1941 in Valdese, NC. Pitts died the next day at 5 a.m. Newland Lefevers hid for 7 days and surrendered on June 14. He was represented by Frank C. Patton of Morganton. According to reports he was convicted of murder, but served only a few months before he was given an unconditional pardon from Governor Broughton. Newland was 23 at the time of the incident, lived in Morganton, and was cousin to Roy LeFevers. Thanks for any information!
