I think you are looking for John Hewes, Sr. He died in 1835 or 1836 in N.C He had two sons, Henry Thompson Hughes born 1922 and left after his father's death and went to White County, Tenn. along with brother, Samuel born in 1816. From there H.T. went on to Holt (sp.?) County, Missouri and he married Nancy Wilhite in 1846 before leaving Tenn. Samuel left Tenn. and went to Arkansas after marrying Polly Holman in 1846, My grandfather . Samuel Stevens Hughes, fwas born in 1847 to H.T. and Nancy and they had nine other children. My father's name was Jesse Sidney Hughes. Don't think I have helped you....have you seen a copy of John Hewes, Sr.'s will? Don't know what happened to his other offspring, Elizabeth, John,Jr. and Andrew.
