I just reread the posting and think that I may have come across the following information after our last correspondence. Apparently there was a David Cowen born on Sept. 12, 1812 in Rowan county, supposedly the son of an Adam Cowan born about 1780 in NC, first wife's name Jean. David married Telitha Martin, who was also born in Rowan, in 1835 in Gasconade County MO. The families had traveled together and arrived sometime after 1828. Other children of Adam's were James Canada, John, Anastacia, and Mary Ann. What excited me is the son named James Canada as we have a John Canada Cowan as the son of our Adam(we think born about 1770)from Buncombe County. Adam Cowen/Cowan died in MO in 1836, there was an estate settlement with David Cowen listed as the administrator. Do you have an approximate time line for the David Cowan estate settlement in Mecklenburg? Our Buncombe County Cowan's (all except John Canada) were selling property about 1828 or shortly after, and were last found on the 1830 Census. We know our Adam also had a son named James born about 1802-04. The provider of the above information could give me no futher detail about their James Canada and I couldn't find him on the Missouri Census.
