    3. Hi, I am a new subscriber to the Burke County mailing list. I am a descendant of Joseph and Mary LAIL who lived in Burke County in the first half of the 19th century. Joseph appears as Joseph SAIL in the 1840 census of Burke County. Mary died presumably 1840 - 1850; Joseph and his 2nd wife, Christine)_____ LOWMAN (widow of Unknown LOWMAN), died presumably 1850 - 1860, most likely in Burke County. Joseph's son Peter LAGLE married his first cousin Mary Ann LAGLE, daughter of Henry LAGLE and Margaret HEDRICK, and moved to Catawba County. Peter's son Noah LAIL, my 2nd great-grandfather, spent most of his life in Catawba County, but died in the State Hospital in Morganton 18 April 1924 and is buried somewhere in Burke County. His death certificate did not name the cemetery. His first wife, Polly Holler LAIL, who died in 1912, is buried in Catawba Co. Noah apparently remarried but I have been unable to find out anything about his wife other than that her name was Ida Lora JOHNSON. (Name found in the book, The Lagle / Lail Family in America). I am hoping that someone on this list might be able to help me determine where Noah might be buried. Was there a cemetery set aside for patients at the State Hospital? I know that there is a Lail family cemetery in Burke Co. Could someone who has Volume 4 (I believe that is the correct volume) of the Burke Co. Cemeteries check to see if he is listed there? He might be buried wherever his 2nd wife is buried, but as I could not find her in the 1930 census, I have no idea if she preceded him in death or remarried after his death. I was also unable to find Noah and Ida in the 1920 census. I checked the households of all his living children to no avail. Thank you for your help. Teri Tillman
