Hi Everyone, I am trying to determine if the Rachel LAIL shown below was a LAIL by birth or if she was the widow of an Unknown LAIL. She appears to have married Henry MULL, a widower, about 1899, possibly in Burke County. Yet in the 1910 census she is listed once again as Rachel LAIL and Henry MULL is listed as a boarder. Is this a mistake? In 1920 she appears again as Rachel LAIL, a widow. Henry MULL appears to have died 1910 - 1920. Rachel's grandson, Merte P. LAIL, who was living with her in 1910, could not be found in 1920. It is possible that Merte was in fact a granddaughter and had married by 1920. In 1920 Rachel is living near the widow Minne / Nannie LAIL, but I have been unable to determine if there was a relationship between these 2 women. I do not know the name of Minnie's late husband. Can anyone shed any light on the identity of Rachel LAIL / MULL? Thank you for your help. They are living next door to Timothy LAIL, age 48 (wife Catharine). 1910 U.S. Census Rachel LAIL is a 50 year old single female head of household in Burke Co. She is the mother of 1 child who is still living. Her 10 yr old grandson, Merte P. Lail, is living with her. A 60 yr. old boarder, Henry Mull is also living in this household. He has been married twice. William and Idia (Lydia?) Propst are neighbors as are Frank and Ellen BURNS. James and Mary Lail also live in the neighborhood. 1920 U.S. Census Rachel LAIL, a widow, is 60 yrs. old and living alone in Lower Fork, Burke Co. Neighbors include: Frank and Ella BURNS and children w/ grandfather Jacob DIETZE, Noah and Alice HOYLE, and Minnie / Nannie LAIL (35 yrs. old, married, no husband) and her daughters Rosa and Emma. Minnie's husband may have been Tim LAIL. This Rachel LAIL / MULL appears to have died 1920 - 1930.
