    1. Re: [NCBURKE] First Kaylor in this Area?
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: DaveKaylor51 Surnames: Kaylor, Bolick Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.northcarolina.counties.burke/4648.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have pretty much the same information you do about Eve Kaylor. Like you, I tend to assume she is the daughter of Adam Bolch Jr. because, as you mentioned, her husband John Kaylor was the administrator of Adam's estate. As you may know, John Kaylor was also the administrator of Molly's estate when she died and he was paid expenses for taking care of her on her sick bed. I didn't know about the death certificate for Roseanne Kaylor, but I have similiar information about another one of Eve's children, Robert Daniel Kaylor,(1850-1926) : His death certificate gives his mother's maiden name as Bolick. Concerning the census, John Kaylor appeared on every census between 1830 and 1880. On the first two he was still living in Lincoln County and was listed right next to his brother George Kaylor Jr. and his aunt Kate Kaylor on the 1830 edition. John Kaylor seemed to be very close to the Longcrier family and participated in some joint land purchases with Jacob Longcrier. That has caused some to speculate over the years that he might be the husband of Hannah Longcrier, but we know that isn't the case. I've actually been working on a theory that John Kaylor might be the son of Hannah Longcrier because there was a Hannah Kaylor and I think his father George Kaylor may have had two wives. Of course, that's a whole different subject that may be beyond the scope of what you're interested in. The following children were listed for John Kaylor on the 1850 census. Harriet (22), Monrow (21, farmer), Catherine (20), Susan (18), Rosana (14), Elza (12), Amy (9), George W. (7), William (5), Launia P. (4), John (2), and Daniel P. (3/12). I believe John and Eve Kaylor had two or three sons who were killed during the Civil War. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. So far I haven't been systematic in spelling of the surname, so y'all may have to search under both Husband and Husbands. --------------------------- It's better to go directly to the above URL for website, or via worldconnect family trees portal at www.rootsweb.com or search at http://wc.rootsweb.com BY THOSE PORTALS, y'all can look at the source notes, or can look at more recent generations than are provided by the early global descendancy, for person on the family tree by just clicking on a name. ALSO via those portals, the latest updates and corrections are incorporated into the family tree. ---------------------------------------- BUT, as a less preferred alternative, in case the above options aren't possible, here's what my descendancy currently says: 1. The Duplin County web page at http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncduplin/duplin.htm lists Ms. Pope as a volunteer. The webmaster is Diane Siniard and perhaps she will forward your inquiry to Ms. Pope. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: auntsissie Surnames: Bolick, Kaylor Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.northcarolina.counties.burke/4648.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The John Kaylor, born in 1805 that you speak of in the post was married to Eve Bolick. I believe her to be the daughter of Adam Bolick (JR) born 8 Jan 1755 in Berks Co PA. I have been tracking John and Eve's children trying to determine who her parents were. John Kaylor was executor of Adam's estate in 1832 Lincoln Co. NC. The George Kaylor you talk about being the father of John lived by Adam apparently. Adam lived on Macklin Creek south of Newton. Lincoln Co Nc deed book 28, 29, & 30, 1352, March 12 1796 George lined out ADAM BOLICK Lincoln Co to HENRY LONGCRIER Lincoln Co for 20 pds sold 100 acres ON WATERS OF MOYERS BR OF LYLES CREEK border begins at a red oak in JACOB MOYER'S OLD LINE joines RORICK, GALBRAITH FALLS old line & BENFIELD granted (no date) by the state to (omitted) signed ADAM BOLICK witness CHRISTIAN BOLICK & GEORGE KAYLOR (or could it be SEBATIAN BOLICK?) witness oath April 1819 by CHRISTIAN BOLICK book 29 pg 4 http://genforum.com/bolick/messages/139.html Ida Deal 27 Aug 2003 The estate papers of Adam Bolch, Jr., son of Johan Adam BOLCH, show that Adam Jr. died between 15 February 1832 when he wrote a promissory note (with a real signature) to George Smyer and on 6 July 1832 when "Molly" his wife relinquished her right of Administration. Does anyone have a more defined date for his death. The estate papers will copy onto 8 pages if you order them from the Raleigh archives. Also, John Kaylor and Jacob Longcryer become the administrators. I know that Longcryer is a son-in-law. Does anyone recognize John Kaylor as a relative?? We know for certain that John's daughter, Rosanna Kaylor born 10 Sept 1835 died 31 Dec 1922 Caldwell Co. NC married Elcana Austin, who's mother was also a Bolick. Her death certificate states her father was a Kaylor and her mother a Bolick. I have discovered that several of the other children lived long enough to have death certs, but I haven't got them yet. I can't find John in 1850, but have found him 1860 through 1880. Carolyn Whitaker atsissie@aol.com Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. Re: [NCBURKE] Burke County Bastardy Bonds
    2. Derick, Thanks for nipping this problem in the bud. As pointed out in several other messages, the Camins' published abstracts does contain errors. *Any* source whether it is a transcription, an abstract, a genealogy, a family group sheet, an e-mail, or family lore requires careful evaluation before considering it authoritative. The best method is to use the source for clues and follow up by examining the original record. In response to the question from another poster about how to determine the name of the father on the Camins' abstracts of bastardy bonds -- the answer is that abstracts of bastardy bonds cannot be used to identify the reputed father. The original bond and accompanying papers must be researched to make that determination. 3. Hi, Derick: Hope you're not as overwhelmed with 'stuff' as I am right now! Between genealogy and church work, I feel like the little mouse on the wheel! I looked at the Bastardy Bonds site. It's the work of the Camins as published by them a number of years ago. Who is Elizabeth Pope? I don't see any relation she has with the site or the info. Lib Michaels told me today that she'd checked and Betty Camin died this spring (website says she was in a nursing home). It seems from the site that her husband has put up Betty's genealogy work for folks to use at will. Betsy has a few bones to pick with the info on the BB site. Her use of the same records indicates that there are plenty of transcription errors. Lib tells me of an example in her family where 3 of the four names are mis-read. Wonder if we could (or should) put any kind of 'use at own risk' warning or something like that? I do think that it's better than having nothing at all, but lots of users probably take it as absolutely correct and run with it, especially since checking the originals involves that nice trip to Raleigh. The other thing we might note is that it only goes through 1878, so there are a number of the bonds that were not included (the Camins did so with the stated purpose of respecting the privacy of folks perhaps still living or recently deceased). I had just examined the Camin site the other day myself (more of that Lail work), so I immediately saw the data was familiar and noted the URL was the Camins'. We got a note from the genealogy society (Old Tryon or Cleveland Co.--don't remember which) which was read at the Board meeting last week. Seems the new owners of Mr. Floyd's ISP took down the site...must have wanted more money or something. Take care of yourself.
