I have death cert. info that her father was John Shuffler and it listed her mother as Mary Boyer. What I have found on censuses is a John Shuffler but on all of them his wife is Susan or Lizzie or Elizabeth; no mention of a Mary. I know sometimes nicknames can take the place of real names...but I don't think this is the case here. My dead end is Maggie. I think she was born around 1863 in Burke County. Parents listed as John Shuffler and Mary Boyer on Death Cert. Death 17 Sept 1936 in Dallas, Gaston County, NC. She had an out of wedlock child named William Macon Shuffler; b. 1880 while living as a servant in Benjamin and Mary Barrier. I believe that their son Julius was the father of William Shuffler. Although no one talked of it during those times, it was known. Also, the pictures that I have shows two tall lanky men who look alike. Does anyone have information on any of these people that can shed light on Maggie Shuffler. She eventually married a James Mann Coleman, moved to Gaston County and had other children although William Shuffler never left the Barrier household. I have Earline's book on the History of Jonas Ridge. Please help. Email hookedonncgenealogy@yahoo.com Cindy (sorry if this went through twice...having trouble with internet.) I believe it still exists. - Julie Cline The history of the Weidner/Whitener family includes Pinckney Alexander Whitener and his wife Dicy Mariah Brendle. This history is by Anne Williams McAllister, /Heinrich Weidner 1717-1792 [and] Catharina Mull Weidner 1733-1804: Through Four Generations/ (privately printed 1992), vol. I. Anne probably still has copies available for sale. She also published vol. II. It is a big book -- 970 pages plus an extensive index. Contact me if you want Anne's email address. P. 895: records Pinckney Alexander Whitener as the son of Ephraim and Delila (Propst) Whitener. P. 923: gives an account of Pinckney who was born 25 august 1833, died 29 October 1911, buried at Mountain Home Baptist Church cemetery in Burke County. Married 11 February 1854 to Dicy Mariah Brendle. The biography includes excerpts from a paper entitled "Brief History of the Family of the Rev. Pinkney [sic] Alexander Whitener and Dicey Mariah Brendle, their Ancestors and Descendants" by Russell Pinkney Whitener, Sr. It says that Pinckney was an ordained Baptist minister but does not identify the church he founded -- perhaps it is the church where he is buried. Hope this helps, Kathy Gunter Sullivan

What info do you have on the Struttons? We are from Hezakiah Strutton/Stratton that went to TN. I think I have a Mills in my Stratton lines, have to check my notes. Any Connection? Krys </HTML>
I am looking for my Mills Ancestors. In 1780-1810, they would have lived in Wilkes County but present day Caldwell County. The Mills' lived close to Chestnut Mtn, Strutton Creek, Globe Church, Wolfpen Creek, Upper Dark Bottom close to the Yadkin River. Their neighbors were Strutton, Lenoir, Coffey, etc. There was a Widow Mills in a deed abstract at the foot of Chestnut Mtn. Simon Mills, Hardy Mills, William Mills I & William Mills II all lived in this area from abt 1785 until 1811. I will gladly share what info I have. Please help if possible. Larry Mills

The address is 1000 S Sterling st. Morganton, NC 28655 (828) 433-2111 As with all patients, confidentiality, makes it difficult to obtain information. This type of patient in particular, since there was such a stigma attached. I recommend contacting the hospital directly. If your Uncle died there he maybe buried on the hospital grounds. Your Uncle also would have a death certificate if he died after 1930- this may list his condition he was hospitalized with. Good luck. IF you will check the 1850 census you will find Tom Jr. living with Joel's son in Caldwell. The information on Bettie Hilton comes off of the Mabe's Guion Miller applications to the Cherokee Nation. They say that Tom and Bettie's daughter Lucinda Hilton married Long John Mabe. That both Tom and Bettie had NA blood. The Helton boys in a radio interview in the 1830's say that an Indian married a Hilton girl and took her name. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
