I don't think this is my family. I am looking for the parents of Hugh Erwin (b. abt 1812) who lived in Burke County, NC. In 1820 Burke County census, there were a few Erwins who had children Hugh's age. They were Arthur Sen, James, William, and William W. With your information I'll keep filling in the blanks until I hope I can discover something. Thanks again. Susan Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. These are Burke and Macon County NC Angels and Wilsons. Elizabeth Angel is listed as head of household in the 1840 Macon County NC census. In her household are "other free persons of color". Most likely the reason the Wilsons went to Missouri in 1819 is because they were part Cherokee and moved west as agreed to in the treaties of 1817 and 1819. Look for your ancestors on the Cherokee Reservation Rolls. They went to Missouri because earlier migrations of Cherokee had gone to that area. The oral history of the Wilsons from Martin Wilson of Missouri, sorry can't think of the town name now, is that the Wilsons were seven brothers who were "Privateers" in the war between England and Spain. (1600-1602?). To reward them for their service to the crown of England, the King granted them land on this (U.S. continent). They were supposed to land and go for seven miles to their left and seven miles to their right and as far inland as they could go, and claim that land. I am quite sure the native indians had other ideas about that! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: jalfischer Surnames: Ballew, Baleu, Span Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.northcarolina.counties.burke/2488.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: from jalhhf2000@yahoo.com I hope you answer my email I am VERY INTERESTED IN aaron BALLEW or Baleu. My Aaron Baliu was born circa 1730 possibly in Berkshire or Chesire Co in England. He was DUTCH by descent through the famous mapmaker Williem Baleu who produced maps 1606 to 1672 (he is written up in the encyclopedia). Aaron emmigrated to north America 1743 with the allied "by marriage" Span descents of Jonathan Span the navel officer who sailed the war ship "Virgin's prize" for Maryland's wars in 1699 In lieu of pay Maryland issued him lands, he in discust, went back to England. 43 years later his descents came to claim them. But Maryland had ceded them to the granville properties. Granville properties were only too happy to honor the grant due to the party was of 300 souls and of good stock and families. (area of Cumberland region in present day Tennessee on the Pennyrile Plateau.) These lands changed names many times. my connection is Moses Span Jr married Elizabeth Baleu (Ballew) dau of Aaron Baleu (Ballew). They married in the cumberland region (Then called Chickamunga). By 1800 the Indian wars were rampunt and many of the Span allied families moved further north (now Kentucky and Roane co North Carolina.) Moses and Elizabeth Baleu Span settled in Warren Co, Ky befor 1798. He died before Warren Co split off Allin Co in 1815. Moses and Elizabeth had sons Moses III, and Aaron Span, amoung their children. Aaron Span born 1778 is my ancestor. I too am anxious to find more information please email me back. I have a lot, some good and some not so good, and a lot just family stories that I want to verify. 3. Dear friends, With the help of Jan Heavner and others, I have attempted to reconstruct the missing cemeteries of Lincoln and Gaston Counties. The pages that have recently been updated are: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nclincol/cemeteries.htm http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncgaston/cemeteries.htm So many people have had a hand in contributing their intellectual efforts toward making the RootsWeb Project page the very best on the web I can't express sufficient appreciation. I can assure all contributors that their efforts are appreciated and, at the same time, are covered by RootsWeb protection and applicable US copyright laws. These statements have been placed on all web pages that I have posted. Those who would like to contribute transcriptions of documents; deeds, court records, road surveys, or any form of documentation that might be helpful to other researchers are encouraged to contact me.
