I am trying to determine if the Jerome M. ALDRIDGE noted below is the same as the Jerome ALDRIDGE who was the son of Waitstill ALDRIDGE and Mary Polly "Pop" "Poppie" MARKES JOHNSON. This name (Jerome) was provided to me by Audrey Franklin who is on the ALDRIDGE list. She believes him to be one of Waistill and Poppie's sons but I have not been able to locate any info on this child. In the 1930 US Federal Census for Snohomish Washington, there is a 20 yr. old white single male listed as an Inmate at the Washington State Reformatory whose name is listed as Jerome M. ALDRIDGE. This Jerome M. ALDRIDGE gives his place of birth and parents as coming from NC. If you have access to Ancestry.com, you can see the census page at http://content.ancestry.com/iexec/?htx=View&r=an&dbid=6224&iid=WAT626_2520-0203&fn=Jerome+M&ln=Aldridge&st=r&ssrc=&pid=112629971<about:blank> Do you have info about either Jerome ALDRIDGE or Jerome M. ALDRIDGE? I would be happy to exchange info and sources with you. Do you have info about the Washington State Reformatory? Tamara G. Suttle Castle Rock, CO Tgsuttle@msn.com<about:blank>
I regret to inform you that I am discontinuing printing "German Speaking People West Of The Catawba River 1750-1800" permanently. The cost has gone out of sight. However I plan to have CDs available within the next couple of months. The Shoe Cobbler's Kin, Volume II , A genealogy of Peter Eaker, Sr. 1985 is almost out of print. I have only a few copies left. It too will be put on CDs by early next year. Volume I is still plentiful as it has been printed 3 times. For more information you may use this email address Lorena

Most of the birth dates are from an old family record recently shared by Joanne Libera. Elizabeth Davis was born 24 Sep 1796 in Burke (now Avery) Co., NC, a daughter of William Davis (1730s-1841) and Frances Carpenter (1771-1842) of Three Mile Creek. Elizabeth Davis married William Vaughn on 2 Sep 1814 in Burke (now Avery) Co., NC. They had four children: 1. Alfred Vaughn, married Tempy Rich, both were deaf & dumb b.20 Oct 1815 Burke (now Avery) Co., NC d. after 1900 Graham Co., NC 2. Frances Vaughn, married Samuel Carpenter b. 20 Jan 1818 Burke (now Avery) Co., NC d. 25 Oct 1862 Mitchell (now Avery) Co., NC 3. Eleanor Vaughn b. 24 Sep 1823 Burke (now Avery) Co., NC 4. Nancy Vaughn b. 12 Jun 1824 Burke (now Avery) Co., NC William Vaughn died sometime between 1825 and 1828. His widow Elizabeth then married John Vance, exact date unknown. John Vance was born 5 Sep 1796 in South Carolina, probably Greenville District. Parents are unknown, though he may be a son of Matthew Vance and Barbara McVeigh, but that is unproven. John and Elizabeth had five children 5. Barbara Vance, married John Johnson b. 8 Jan 1828 Burke (now Avery) Co., NC d. after 1880 Mitchell (now Avery) Co., NC 6. William Vance, married 1-Elizabeth Franklin; 2-Frances Matilda Carpenter b. 12 Jan 1831 Burke (now Avery) Co., NC d. after 1880 Mitchell (now Avery) Co., NC 7. Thomas Vance, died young b. 4 Jan 1834 Yancey (now Avery) Co., NC d. 1834/1840 Yancey (now Avery) Co., NC 8. Flemming Vance, married Frances Matilda Daniels b. 12 Aug 1837 Yancey (now Avery) Co., NC d. 2 Apr 1918 Avery Co., NC 9. John W. Vance, married Lilly Ann Isaacs b. 5 Dec 1841 Yancey (now Avery) Co., NC d. 11 May 1917 Avery Co., NC The names and birth dates of the children are given in an old family record, probably taken from the family bible. This was shared with me by Joanne Libera: Memorandom (sic) of ages 1. John Vance was born September the 5 day 1796 2. Elisabeth Vaughn his wife was born September 24 day 1796 3. Alfred Vaughn was born October 25 day 1815 4. Frances Vaughn was born January 20 day 1818 5. Eleanor Vaughn was born September 24 day 1823 6. Nancy Vaughn was born June the 12 day 1824 7. Barbary Vance was born January 8 day 1828 8. William Vance was born July the 12 day 1831 9. Thomas Vance was born January the 4 day 1834 10. Flemmon Vance was born August the 12 day 1837 11. John Vance was born December the 5 day 1841 You will find John Vance on the 1830 census in Burke Co., NC, the 1840 in Yancey, the 1850 and 1860 in Watauga. He is missing in 1870. His widow Elizabeth is listed on the 1880 census in Mitchell with son John. I don't think John Vance (1796) had a middle name, or if he did, I've never seen any record of it. His son John (1841) was John W. Vance. I guess the "W" could stand for "Wesley" but I've seen no proof of that, but it may be correct.
