Author: ghaire2 Surnames: Young Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.northcarolina.counties.burke/4762/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Can anyone identify the parentage of Joshua Young Jr. who shows up on the 1820 US Census, Burke Co. NC? His household is listed as having: 1M<10; 1M 16-45; 2F<10; 2F 16-26. I'm assuming that with two females in the 16-26 age bracket, that they have a young woman living with them, unless one of them began having children on or before the age of 10. Strawbridge is supposed to have a son named Joshua, but he would only be 24 in 1820, and it appears he is still living in his father's household. There is a Joshua YOUNG Sr & JR on the 1790 Census, but this Joshua is too young to be him, and I believe the other Joshua listed in 1820 is the 1790 Joshua Jr. This Joshua comes on the scene in Burke Co. in 1820, but is absent in 1830. Anyone having any thoughts or leads? greg Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. World War II soldier: Sergeant Bradford Stuart Conley. Sgt. Conley died 11 September 1944 in Baelen (Belgium) and is buried at the American Cemetery at Henri-Chapelle. Mr.Vandeberg Vincent of Belgium states his information is that a burial flag was sent to the soldier's mother, Katie K. Conley of Rt 3, Box 149, Morganton, Burke County, North Carolina. Mr. Vincent: "I adopted also his grave at the American cemetery from Henri-Chapelle. Are there a WWII monument with his name at Burke !!!!!!!! Are there a article in the newspaper from the town when he died September 11 ,1944 !!!!! None of the following answers Mr. Vincent's requests, but does confirm what he has already learned about the soldier. 3. Dear Burke friends, I recently received a query from a gentleman living in Belgium. He exhibits a patriotic side that most Americans would be proud of. He lives close to an American cemetery close to where the Battle of the Bulge was fought and has adopted the grave of an American soldier. He desires to send a burial flag to the soldier's next of kin. The soldier is Bradford Stuart Conley but I have no information on him or his surviving family members. The writer gives his mother's name as Katie K. Conley of Rt 3 Box 149, Morganton. If anyone can help this gentleman and remember this fallen hero, I feel sure something good will be accomplished. Please forward what information you may have to me and I will be happy to pass it on to Mr. Vincent and post it on the Burke County NCGenWeb Military page. I am copying the Morganton News-Herald for this letter, hoping they may find the story news worthy and possibly help in the search to locate the family of this patriot who died 64 years ago while defending our freedoms. Thanks in advance, --Derick > Sire, > >Let me introduce myself. My name is Vandeberg Vincent, I 'am 40 >years old. I am married and have two children, Mandy and kevin. William K. Houck, who had held a ten day revival in a brush arbor. The chapel was built in 1888 and named in his honor. He served this church from his home in Morganton for more than half a century. He preached his last sermon in April 1947 at the age of 92. The church is still used today. Houck's Chapel was placed in the Hickory Multiple Resource Nominations to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. The cemetery surrounding the church is called Houck's Chapel Cemetery. The remainder of the cemetery is called Fairview Cemetery. It is now part of the Hickory City Cemeteries. ["Catawba County Cemeteries," Vol. 4, page 15. I've worked hard over the years on the descendants of Thomas Hutchins (1753-1843) who came from Wake Co. and settled in Rutherford Co. NC. The descendants of course spread through several places, but those who recognize the name should be pleased. I hope that this really helps us all work together on these families. Rutherford, Wake, Yancey, Mitchell and Cleveland are some of the most populated counties with descendants in them as well as Washington Co. TN and Clay Co. KY, but again, they've spread far and wide. Take time to visit the site www.hutchinsfamilytree.com and let me know what you think. The site is not entirely complete and eventually will only allow subscribers to view it. Here are the most common surnames listed in the tree Hutchins, Waters, Weaver, Yelton, Smawley, Green, Toney, Guffey, Biggerstaff, Sweezy, Towery, Epley, Farris, McMahan, Allen, Holder, Bradley, Davis, Johnson, Earles, Melton, Beatty, Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
