Does anyone know where the Perrin DANIELS family of Burke Co., NC came from? I believe Perrin was b abt. 1787 in Burke Co., NC and married Nancy (last name unknown). By 1810, they were having children -- first in Burke Co., NC and then in Carter Co., TN. Can you help me find my ancestors? I am happy to exchange info and sources with you. Tamara G. In the 1910 US Federal Census for Linville, Mitchell (later Avery) Co., NC, my great grandparents, Lee GRIFFIN and his wife, Minerva Jane ALDRIDGE, are listed with their children. One of those children listed is a baby, Bertie GRIFFIN, b abt. 1909. Does anyone know anything about this child? Bertie was never mentioned to me by my family and I wonder if s/he died early. Bertie's siblings were: Della Mildred GRIFFINb 25 Jul 1903 Florence (Flossie) GRIFFIN b 25 Jul 1903 (these two were twins and Flossie was my grandmother) Estella GRIFFIN b 25 Jul 1907 Anna Lee GRIFFIN b 06 Jun 1909 Pauline GRIFFIN b 1912 This family was born and raised in the Hughes Community of Mitchell (now Avery) Co., NC. Any help you can provide will be appreciated. Tamara G. SUTTLE Castle Rock, CO Tgsuttle@msn.com<mailto:Tgsuttle@msn.com>
Tamara, There are two possibilities - according 1900 Burke Co. Census, there was an Ader Franklin b. Dec 1894 daughter of James M. or W. Franklin & Eliza Jane Deal! Another possible was a s/o Ellis and Rebecca Franklin cited as A-----w age 3, born Nov 1896. Both families in Lovelady Twp. There are no Lusks or Calloways listed in either 1880 or 1900 Burke Co. censuses. The Lusks that I've seen have been from SC possibly back to Joseph Lusk b. c. 1656 Ireland which data is on ancestry.com. Most Calloways most probably in Lincoln Co., NC Ann K. Abraham "Abe" Alexander CALLOWAY b 22 Nov 1855 married first to Hannah LUSK b abt. 1857 d 05 Mar 1920. Together I believe they had 11 children and second to Mary Jane "Sis" FRANKLIN b 04 Jul 1866 and d 21 Jan 1951. I only know of 1 child from this marriage. This Abraham "Abe" Alexander CALLOWAY was one of several children born to Mary EGGERS and William "Bill" H. (ALDRIDGE) CALLOWAY. This Bill was the son of James "Jimmie" ALDRIDGE and Elizabeth "Betsy" CALLOWAY. (After it became known that Jimmie was already married, Betsy left Jimmie and took back her maiden name. That is why this William "Bill" H. ALDRIDGE may have gone by either ALDRIDGE or CALLOWAY. Abraham "Abe" Alexander CALLOWAY was the first mail carrier from Pyatte to Plumtree in Avery Co., NC. Can anyone provide dates when he worked as a mail carrier here? Can anyone provide names and sources for siblings? Abe CALLOWAY was my 1st cousin 3 x removed. Tamara G. Despite this recognition, careless development continues to threaten the site. The latest threat is by the Duke Energy Company, who wants to build a power plant DIRECTLY ATOP the site of Greene's Crossing ! During the "Race to the Dan River Campaign" in 1781, Greene drew Cornwallis into a trap that would be sprung at Yorktown with Cornwallis' surrender. In Feb 1781, Greene and his men eluded almost certain capture and annihilation by Cornwallis by crossing the Yadkin at the Trading Ford in the night while Cornwallis slept.
