My Moher's mother was Rebecca Sheffield. She marrid Edward Carnes Rebecca Sheffield came from Ireland. Ellen (her sister) remembers she had an accent. On Fathers side my great grandmother was Eveline Stone. She married Mr Brooks. My Grandmother was Nancy Brooks. She married John Childress (1800). My Father was Thomas M Childress (1835) in Wilkes. NC. Martha Carnes Childress was born in Lumpkin County , Georgia. Ellen was born in Dohlonega, Georgia. My father had 3 brothers one named Willis. and one of his sisters was naed Sallie. Mollie her sister was born in Atlanta, Georgia. The rest were born in Missouri. Where they moved on account of Thomas m Childress's health. They moved to Dickson when ellen was about 14 (1876). President James K Polk's wife, Sarah Childress was a first cousin of Thomas M Childress Her father Joel Childres and John Childress were brothers. -so brag about it. Grandpa visited her often when she moved to Nashville from Washington. He Called her cousin Sadie. We also have a cousin named George C Childress who was a lwyer. He went to Texas ...joined Sam Houston's staff and it is supposed the Declaration of Independence of Texas from Mexico is in his handwriting and he was a figure in writing it. Childress County Texas is named for him. I have had some correspondence with Liz Carpenter, Mrs Johnson's (The president's wife's) secretary. She is a relative of George C Childress. She originally came from Boston. President James K Polk's father came from Ireland. His name was Pollocks changed it to Polk. If anyone is connected to these lines please let me know. My line goes through another son named Johnathan (aka Daunt) and his wife Lucinda Fox. What I do have is my compiled info on Capt. John's ancestors.
