My great great grandmother (or at least who I think might be my great great grandmother) died in 1892. Is there much chance at all for finding a death record at the county level for her? Would there be anything currently available at the library with an obit from this time frame? I live in Richmond, VA and am happy to send off to the proper sources, but was hoping for a clue that sending off could have some possibility of success or not before I did. If you don;t mind, I would like to know if Thomas Hemphill, father of James Herbert Hemphill, of Nebo, NC, was in the Revolutionary war? Does it state in the book whether he or his Father were? James Herbert Hemphill, was my great grandfather Bam's, dad. As a matter of fact, in their 90's, there are still a few grandchildren of James Herbery Hemphill, living in the Nebo area, but quickly dying off. I wanted to get the 2 sides together to discuss facts..hopefully..their minds are stll sharp! If you located these two individuals, and know of or can find the names of their offspring in the book, I'd be happy to pay you for a copy of those pages! I do have copies of the c! ensus records showing James Herbert and Thomas' household, and I have James Herberts death cert as well...but I want more! What wars did tehy fight in? What line of work was Thomas in? I do know that James was a store owner in Lake James area, do u know anything else? Are any of the Hemphills that attend the reunion...are they from this line?

Dear Burke County friends, I have been the page and list owner of Burke County, NC for some time. During these years, I have come to really love my neighbors to the east. My original reason for adopting the Burke County page was because of wife's 18th century ancestry lived and prospered in Burke County. Burke County was probably the largest county in North Carolina in its time and contributed mightily toward the Patriot Cause. Resident citizens were responsible for turning the outcome of the Revolutionary War. I treasure the opportunities I have experienced in civic, historical, genealogical and fellowship activities in this great county. During that time, I have had many wonderful opportunities to associate with the finest folks I have ever met. As a community, Burke County citizens have done more to display and preserve their heritage than cities many times their size. The County government, the Burke Co Library and the many volunteers have worked together to make genealogical research a most pleasant and productive experience. I feel that if I can't do the very best, its time to pass the torch to one who can. That time has come! The Burke County, NC NCGenWeb page and list, NCBURKE-L, deserve more attention than I am able to devote to them. Because of that, I am seeking a well-qualified individual to host both the page and the list. If you are that person, or know someone capable of hosting the Burke Co., NC site, please let me know. My pride in Burke requires me to demand the very highest credentials. This is not only my personal credo but that of the NCGenWeb Project. Please post me with your reasons for wanting to take on these responsibilities along with your experience in this county. Derick S. Hartshorn Page/list owner, Burke Co.
