In the Cemetery Books it reads:(Old) Graphite Cemetery in Old Fort, on Mill Creek Road (past Andrews Geyser). After the 1916 flood, these graves were reportedly moved to Piney Grove Cemetery, which is about 2 miles away. There are 29 Allison graves in Piney Grove and Henry Allison's grave is the oldest. After him, there is a Rebecca Allison who was born in 1842. If you want info on these other Allison's, e-mail me at [email protected] (there is no " t " in direcway) The graves that were at the Old Mill Creek (Graphite) Cemetery were: HENRY ALLISON, born 1790 - died ( not listed) HARRIET HALLISON born Dec. 3, 1876 and died Dec. 1915, 39 years old, daughter of J.W. and Sara Crow (she must have been one of the Allison's wife) CARL ALLISON, b. Got this on another list. Most interesting.......... These records begin in VA in 1608, with the execution of George Kendall for "spying/espionage" and go to 1987. To say that the early records are fascinating is an understatement (you just don't run into many executions for piracy or witchcraft anymore). But they have value for family researchers, too. Even if you don't have reason to suspect that any of your ancestors were "outlaws," there are records of executions for espionage & treason, especially important during the American Revolution and the Civil War, and there are many records of executions for "slave revolts," which might be helpful to African-American researchers. Be patient, it takes a few minutes to download and you'll need a reader, such as an Acrobat. http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/ESPYdate.pdf

Jo Ann, I wish there was more in my repository on Bartlett Berry. Perhaps readers will be able to assist. I am copying this to Burke Co. researchers. I have only the following, in addition to the Zion Church burials. I know this is not your Bartlet but its one more to add to the collection. Burke County census 1880 (Ancestry.com): Name: Bartlet W. BERRY Age: 24 Estimated birth year: <1856> Birthplace: North Carolina Relation: Self Home in 1880: Lovelady, Burke, North Carolina Occupation: Farmer Marital status: Married Race: White Gender: Male Head of household: Bartlet W. BERRY Father's birthplace: NC Mother's birthplace: NC See http://www.us-census.org/pub-ftp/nc/burke/1790/pg0088.txt For 1790 Burke Co. census---includes Berrys I show precious little else. I note there were several by that name in Burke County in different eras. I'll pass this on to folks who may have more information than I. Best wishes, Derick S.
