Now you would check the obits. I would look a week before and a week after the actual death in the local paper. You can also check church records. Next you would want to check wills and estate records. Wills and estate records can also be found in the archives in Raliegh. Good luck!
I'm searching for the burial place of Maude M. McDade who was a patient at the State Hospital from at least 1900 to1930. I believe she may be buried in Broughton Cemetery, Burke Co. I have found a URL for the cemetery, but the link is not working. Does anyone have access to the index for the cemetery? I would like to determine her birth (which I believe to be about 1874) and death date. Dixie

The names James, John, Samuel were used in profusion in the Greenlee families. I suspect this land in Monroe Co., TN was at one point owned as part of the families bounty land warrant collection and proficient land speculating. If my memory serves me correctly, Monroe Co., TN borders present day North Carolina counties of Cherokee and Graham(once part of Buncombe Co, formed 1791, from Rutherford and a smaller portion of Burke Co., NC), that area now east Tennessee was being claimed by the early settler families of western NC by 1780 after the defeat of the British, who had outlawed settlement past the crest of the Blue Ridge of the Alleghanies. This John Allison was buried at the Old Siloam - Ebenezer Church Cemetery near Old Fort. He was born: 1834 and died 1900 - name listed is John Wesley Allison. There are also twins buried near him with names only: Benjamin and John Allison. Didn't see a Sarah here. There were 31 Allisons buried here. I didn't see a Sarah at all in the index of the cemetery books. Is there a possibility she went by another name? There was a Savanah S. Allison born 1868. died 1920 in this cemetery. If not a wife, possibly a daughter? Anita
