    1. RE: [NCBurke] Re: Searching for Council or Cooke Morgontown School for the Deaf
    2. Here's an interesting article I found at Ancestry.com: The Landmark, Statesville, NC, April 20, 1897 "The Morganton Herald says Avery Myers, an employe of the Deaf and Dumb School at Morganton, and Emma Snipes, aged 17, an employe of the same institution, eloped Sunday night a week ago. Myers left a wife and three children and an aged father and mother who were dependant upon him. The pair was arrested in Charolotte last week and taken back to Morganton." As I recall, it was founded about 1898. According to a cousin, writing me more than 50 years ago, her father went to one there much earlier, so it apparently had a precursor. > > >==== NCBURKE Mailing List ==== >NCBURKE-L [Co., NC] Mailing List - Sharing information on Historic Burke Co., NC >For further info, see http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncburke/ >Our thanks to RootsWeb.com for hosting this list and web page > > __________________________________________________________________ New! I'm familiar with Fallston, and I have seen the info posted for John and Minda at the online site for Pleasant Grove Cemetary. I was in contact with another researcher some time back that told me Curly Powell was an illegitimate child of John Smith. That would make her a half sister to my G grandfather, Anderson Smith. I have also corresponded with a lady that has done extensive research on the Smiths and other families for many, many years. She has an enormous amount of oral history from, and about, the Smith Family. I would love to exchange information, and I'll gladly share what I have or know. Searching the Smith side of my family has been a very frustrating experience, to say the least. Please feel free to contact me direct at [email protected] Thank you, Pam.

Pitts died the next day at 5 a.m. Newland Lefevers hid for 7 days and surrendered on June 14. He was represented by Frank C. Patton of Morganton.
