She was my greatgrandmother. Her death certificate is on file at the Burke Co. Courthouse. According to it she was born in August of 1850 in Cleveland Co. and died on January 12, 1938 in Morganton, Burke Co. She was buried at the County Home Cemetary off of Enola Road in Burke Co. in an unmarked pauper's grave. She was married to James Smith b. March 1851 to Adolphus Smith and Passenfore York, I do not have a death date for him. James and Nancy were married August 9, 1874 in Burke Co. She had 3 known children, Plato Durham Smith (1876-1938 my grandfather), Cordelia Smith who married Sylvanus Branch and Bryant Smith. Her parents are not mentioned on either her death certificate or on the marriage listing at the Burke Co. Library. If anyone has any information on Nancy, please contact me on or off the list. Could this be the person you are looking for? It is grave 16 in row 34. This Nellie was from Randolph County, was born in 1877 and died 10/14/1932.
