    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Dickson/Dixson/Dixon Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/5UB.2ACI/2730 Message Board Post: I have information on Immanuel Jackson Dickson, b. 1871 son of Charles William Jackson. I just found all the wonderful information posted by Johnny Dickson of Texas on the children of Charles William Dickson, and would love to add my family info. Immanuel Jackson spelled his name Dixson. Some of his sons kept that spelling and some changed it to Dixon. To my knowledge none used the Dickson spelling. He married Ida Vaden Garris in Union Co., N.C. July 21, 1895. She was the daughter of Benjamin L. Garris (b.1854) and Nancy Jane Gaddy (b.1860) from Anson Co.. Immanuel and Ida lived in Charlotte for about five years, then moved to South Carolina. My Dad thought that it was near Columbia, but now I will have to see if maybe it was Spartanburg. Their first three children, William, Nellie and Carl were born in Charlotte. Claude, Earnest, Mabel and Benjamin were born in S.C. The last, Mildred (b. 1822) was born in Charlotte. Immanuel was a farm agent and died of mouth cancer about 1943. If any one has any information on their years in South Carolina or how Immanuel came to be in Union Co., N.C. I would love to hear about it. I also have the spouses of Immanuel's children and approximate birth dates.

    1. [NCBurke] CORRECTION - Andrew JOHNSTON Walker + Brothers Added, Old Photo Added
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/5UB.2ACI/2728.1 Message Board Post: I was mistaken when I listed my great Uncle as Andrew Jackson Walker ... it's Andrew Johnston Walker. Andrew was the first man to own/drive a car in Burke County. He also started a taxi service and he and his wife (name?) owned and operated a hotel in Morganton. Other males in this line include: ROBERT A. Walker who went to California during the Gold Rush with Silvester Bettis. He returned to Burke County and married Nancy _ ?. WILLIAM I. Walker – year/day _ ? in August married Ola Kincade Here is the name I believe is one of William I. Walker's sons or descendants: Edward Walker b. 15th of Dec. 1887 d. 22nd of Sept. 1985 - Married Hattie Brittian Robert and Nancy Walker appear to have six children and are enumerated right beside Robert's mother and father - Arthur and Nancy Walker. This info comes from the 1880 Burke County Census (page 4 of 31) they are all in the Silver Creek Township. Two of Robert and Nancy Walker's six children appear to be: Joseph and Hattie Walker [the image isn't clear] I'm searching for anyone associated with this line. Here is a photo of a Walker Reunion in the late 1930s. Andrew Johnston Walker is the older man with the white hair sitting in the center of the photo. My great grandmother, his sister, Annie Lou Walker is sitting on the right in the photo and another sister I believe to be Martha J. Walker is sitting on the left of the photo beside Andrew. If you know anything about anyone in the photo, please either email or post a message here. Many thanks, Joy English

    2. Derick Hartshorn
    3. The Burke County Land Grants listing has been re-done. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncburke/landgrnt.htm Rather than several alphabetical files, there are now two: 1. Alphabetically sorted Land Grants. http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/nc/burke/deeds/grants01.txt 2. Numerically sorted Land Grants. http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/nc/burke/deeds/grants03.txt These files are now housed on the USGenWeb Archives server, freeing up some much-need space from on the Burke Co. page. Also included is the list of unissued Land Grants. 1. Alphabetically sorted Land Grants. http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/nc/burke/deeds/grants03.txt (to be posted 3-17-04) 2. Numerically sorted Land Grants. http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/nc/burke/deeds/grants04.txt (to be posted 3-17-04) Please direct and comments, corrections or additions to me. --Derick

There may be absolutely no connection to the Ford/Foard family I am researching....but....who knows? Peter Ford and Joseph Ford were in Burke Co., NC at the time of the American Revolution. Peter Ford married Sarah Baldwin in Rowan Co., NC in Nov 1774 - identifying her father as John Baldwin. John Baldwin served as lieutenant in the Rev War where Joseph Ford served as Capt at Kriders Ford, in Burke Co., NC. Peter Ford died in Burke Co and his widow married Moreland and she moved to Wash Co., TN. Interestingly, however, a Jacob Baldwin received a land patent that abutted the land of Peter Ford. And you have a Jacob?

    1. [NCBurke] Andrew Jackson Walker, Son of Arthur Walker and Nancy Ann Johnson / Johnston, Col. John Rutherford Walker Line
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Walker Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/5UB.2ACI/2728 Message Board Post: I am attempting to locate a Male Walker from this line for the Walker DNA project. The Walker male must be living and be willing to have a cue-tip type swab, swab the inside of his mouth to gather cells for the proceedure. [The person does the swabbing themselves, no nurse is involved, everything is handled by mail]. I will pay the persons fee if they are willing to participate in the study. My grandmother, Annie Lou Walker was Andrew Jackson Walker of Burke County's sister. She was mistakenly left out of the Book "Genealogy Of Thomas Walker From Ireland, 1720". In order to participate in the study, it must be a male with the surname 'Walker' because this is the only genetic testing that is available to us for this study. The chromosomes that are studied are passed down only from father-to-son. One generation above 'Andrew Jackson Walker', the male children of William and Ann Walker were: ROBERT Reuben, born 1812, married Myra Dorsey: MALE WILLIAM Johnson, born February 7, 1820, died May 9, 1904, went to Calif. with Sylvester Bettis and died there;** MALE ******ARTHUR, born 1833, died June 7, 1920, married Nancy Ann Johnson (My 2grandfather)****** THOMAS Jefferson , born August 12, 1830, died June 7, 1920, married Nancy Jane Simpson (Male) The female children, who's descendants cannot participate in the study are listed below. They are listed for the purpose of 'information only' in case any of the descendants in their line MAY be able to give me information on the generation of MALE descendants of the Andrew Jackson Walker and his brother/brothers who are in my Walker family lineage. The females of the generation preceding Andrew Jackson Walker's generation are: Margaret S. born May 15, 1822, died May 17, 1906, married William H. Cooper born December 20, 1822, died November 1861. Margaret married secondly, Christopher Epley Adeline, born June 21, 1823, died June 21, 1900, married Sylvester Bettis Martha Jane, born March 24,1829, died October 20, 1906 married Houston Alexander Erwin Elizabeth, born October 2, 1837, died October 2,190? married Nathaniel Chesley Oliphant Elvira, born 1815, married Thomas Dorsey Sophronia, born 1817, married Arthur Patton / Patten Mary Eliza, born September 6, 1817, died December 24, 1913, married William Barr Patton / Patten Margaret S. born May 15, 1822, died May 17, 1906, married William H. Cooper born December 20, 1822, died November 1861. Margaret's second husband was Christopher Epley ***The Walker genealogy listed above is credited to Margaret Denise Clarke - Thank you so much Margaret! I made a few slight alterations.*** However, the only person that can qualify for me to participate in the DNA study, must be a descendant of ARTHUR Walker or one of Arthur's sons descendants. The only name that I have is ANDREW Jackson Walker as a son of Arthur, but I think that he had another son, brother to Andrew, who 'may' have been named THOMAS. Thank you to any and all that can help me find my Male Walker or give me any additional information about this line's genealogy. Joy English

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/5UB.2ACI/2301.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Trudy My grandmother was born in Burke County in the late 1800s. Her name was Fannie Lou Settlemyer, Annie Lou Walker and Henry Clinton Settlemyer were her parents. Annie Lou Walker elopped with Henry Clinton Settlemyer and was basically disowned by the Walker's because she was considered marrying "beneath her". The family came around somewhat though, because I have a photo of the Walker's from the 1930s and my grandmother was in the photo seated beside her brother Andrew. In Senator Sam Ervin's book, Annie Lou Walker was not even mentioned as being her parents child. My great grandmother (Fannie Lou's mother) was Annie Lou Walker, daughter of Arthur and Nancy Walker. Arthur Walker's father was William Walker and William's father was James Reuben Walker. James Reuben Walker was Congressman Felix Walker's brother. My grandmother mentioned the names Bettis, Malone, Killian, Reed, Oliphant, Patton, Settlemyer, etc. as being family names. She mentioned a Mame (sp?) Bettis Malone - a nurse who was married to a Dr. Malone and said that they were the founders of Grace Hospital in Morganton. I would love to know more about my family Trudy, if you would kindly share with me. Joy

Until April 30, 2004, the committee will accept orders at $52.50 including tax. After April 30, 2004, the cost of the book will increase to $62.50 including tax. Order now to save $10.00. If you want your book mailed directly to your home, rather than picking it up from a designated place, you should include an additional $7.00 for postage and handling. It has been learned that many county residents plan to purchase their Heritage book when it comes out. However, the book committee wishes to encourage all residents to order the book in advance. Not only will this save you money, it will insure that everyone that wants a book will get one. (Often the books sell-out immediately after publication!) The Cleveland County Heritage Book, Volume II will be a storehouse of family heirloom pictures and nostalgic reading for everybody with interest in our county. Order forms are still available at Broad River Genealogical Archives, Cleveland County Memorial Library, Cleveland County Register of Deeds and other various businesses. Or visit the Book Committee's website: http://home.earthlink.net/~srapa/index.htm If you have questions, call Nancy Hughes at 704-481-0228 or Ned Cash at 704-484-9396.
