Dear List: There are rumors in our family that we have Cherokee Indian ancestry. No one seems to know for sure, but we believe my grandmother was from that line. Although it could also be on my grandfather side. Both lines go back to North Carolina. Can anyone tell me if there are libraries or historical societies that have marriage records before 1840. Record that tell if the wife was an Indian. My grandmother's line is as follows: They moved to Illinois between 1830 & 1840 Descendants of William Williams II 1 William Williams II b: October 6, 1805 in ...NC d: February 27, 1847 in Clay Co. Il. .. +Christena Fields b: March 9, 1807 in ...NC m: Bef. 1827 d: May 13, 1861 in ...IL ........ 2 Elizabeth Williams b: November 5, 1827 in NC ........ 2 Martha Williams b: Abt. 1830 in ...NC My grandfather's side goes back to a Blair family. That family moved to Indiana before 1842. Descendants of Mary Blair 1 Mary Blair b: December 18, 1818 in North Carolina d: February 19, 1887 in Clay Co, Il Thank you Mary Jane F.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/5UB.2ACI/2728.1.1.2 Message Board Post: Hi again David, I took for granted that you didn't know of a male Walker descendant of Arthur Walker 'still living' when I posted the previous post to you. Please let me know if you know any men who may be alive who are in Arthur's direct line with the surname Walker. It is questionable whether or not a man named James Reuben Walker, son of Col. John Rutherford Walker, ever existed. One Walker gentleman has proved that this person never existed with what seem to be facts, (land grants, dates of death, Felix Walker's autobiography, etc.) He is of the belief that a James Walker, son of Col. John Rutherford Walker and a Reuben/Rubin Walker of the same generation were mixed-up and combined as one person in Walker genealogy. A Walker book has placed this James Reuben Walker in my line several generations back and I would like to help clear this up with DNA testing. W. Ray Walker who has participated in the DNA study and over 30 years researching Walkers says that we who base our Walker genealogy on a James Reuben Walker need to revise our lineage. Our family, of female Walker descent, would like to know where our line fits in with the Burke/McDowell/Rutherford county Walkers. Take care David, Joy
