Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/5UB.2ACI/2752 Message Board Post: LAST CHANCE TO SAVE MONEY ON HERITAGE BOOKS The Cleveland County Heritage Book Committee has announced a final call for book orders at pre-publication prices. This is your last week to have an opportunity to save $10.00. Until April 30, 2004, the committee will accept orders at $52.50 including tax. After April 30, 2004, the cost of the book will increase to $62.50 including tax. Order now to save $10.00. If you want your book mailed directly to your home, rather than picking it up from a designated place, you should include an additional $7.00 for postage and handling. It has been learned that many county residents plan to purchase their Heritage book when it comes out. However, the book committee wishes to encourage all residents to order the book in advance. Not only will this save you money, it will insure that everyone that wants a book will get one. (Often the books sell-out immediately after publication!) The Cleveland County Heritage Book, Volume II will be a storehouse of family heirloom pictures and nostalgic reading for everybody with interest in our county. Order forms are still available at Broad River Genealogical Archives, Cleveland County Memorial Library, Cleveland County Register of Deeds and other various businesses. Or visit the Book Committee's website: http://home.earthlink.net/~srapa/index.htm If you have questions, call Nancy Hughes at 704-481-0228 or Ned Cash at 704-484-9396. If you wish to order your book, mail your check or money order to County Heritage Book at PO Box 263; Shelby, NC 28151-0263.
It still exists. Lewis and Clark even went through there on their famous expedition. There is info on the route they took from PA to there in Stephen Ambrose's "Undaunted Courage"...an excellent read by the way. http://www.showme.net/CapeCounty/ has the county courthouse, court of common pleas, etc and another good link to archives there http://www.showme.net/CapeCounty/archive/index.htm http://www.cityofcapegirardeau.org/ Southeast Missouri's premiere online newspaper, updated daily, covering Cape Girardeau, Jackson, and Southeast Missouri. ... http://www.semissourian.com/ a good map at http://mcmcweb.er.usgs.gov/missouri_pilot/study_area.html looks like KY and TN may have been routes to the area Hope this helps some. Yes, Cape Girardeau, MO is still there and it is in Cape Girardeau County. I had a number of ancestors who migrated there but they came from Edgefield, SC, via Giles co., TN. BTW, it's also Rush Limbaush's hometown. Bill "Ray H. Smith" <[email protected]> wrote: > In time gone by people left Burke County and eventually ended up in Cape Girardeau, Mo. I know that I am descended from the two Isaac Thompsons. I only recently discovered that they had been in Burke County for many years. I know that Isaac Thompson Sr. married Mary Duff in Rockbridge Co. VA in 1786. His War of 1812 pension was filed from Burke Co. indicating he was born in 1754, which syncs with the family bible that I've seen transcribed. Isaac Jr. later moved to Blount Co. TN with his wife Ann (nee Rowan) and their children, among whom are the names Samuel and George (I realize those could have been common names, as they were the names of two key figures in the Revolution). I've only begun looking at Burke County for information. Any leads would be appreciated

The earliest documentation of my ancestors Hiram KELLY & Elizabeth McGEE is the Aug 1813 marriage in BURKE County NC. Elizabeth is believed to be the daughter of Patrick Stewart McGEE & Nancy SPEAR. Hiram's parents have not been Identified. Hiram and Elizabeth moved their family from Burke county NC to Habersham County GA between 1820 &1830. They were in Cherokee County in 1840. Elizabeth died about 1845 & Hiram's 2nd marriage to Malinda Alderson (16 July 1845) is recorded ina Lumpkin County Marriage book. Hiram and Malinda and three daughters were in Forsyth County in 1850 and Madison county AR in 1860. The first documentation I have for Joshua C. ELLIS is the 1837 entry in the Forsyth County GA marriage book recording his marriage to Sarah KELLY. I located what I believe to be the family in the 1840 US Census for Cherokee County, GA. The 1850 US Census of Forsyth County included Joshua, Sarah and the Children. The family moved to Northwest AR before 1860 Joshua, Sarah and their children: William J., Hiram Kelly, Joshua Thomas, Mary Ann, James C. Adeline, & Sarah were recorded in the 1860 Census of Benton County AR. The 1870 Census of Benton County records a John ELLIS, his wife Sarah, and daughters Addie & Sarah. The family sold the Benton County Land moving to Madison county prior to the 1880 Census. Joshua died in 1880. Sarah KELLY's parents ( Hiram KELLY & Elizabeth McGEE) were married in BURKE County NC. Kelly sons Joseph & Jesse & daughter Sarah and their families appear to have traveled to AR at approximately the same time. Daughter Elizabeth & her husband Thomas MONROE arrived in Arkansas in the 1870s. The other Kelly children remained in GA. I have not been able to discover Joshua's ancestors. The census data indicates Joshua was born in North Carolina. I am interested in information about the William ELLIS recorded n the 1840 Census of Cherokee County GA. That family included a male old enough to be Joshua's father, and there is also a record of a land exchange between Joshua and William . The ELLIS/KELLY descendants have a reunion scheduled 24 June in AR. We have located descendants in MA, MO, CA. TX, AR, CO, OK, ID & KS and hope many will attend the reunion. The problem is identifying Sarah (KELLY) & Joshua ELLIS' ancestors, the descendants are finding each other. Jonelle ELLIS Russell email: [email protected]

I descend from William's son, Elijah and Elijah's second wife, Sarah Pope. I would have to review the copy of William's pension that I have, but I thought that he said in it that he was born in NC. I have visited the Bethel Baptist Church cemetery hoping to find his grave. I wondered if he might be at the top of the knoll which was without markers as other members of the family were close by. Do you know if the church has any early records? I have intended to try to contact them but have procrastinated. Thank you, again, Ruth Christian

William Morris, Senior, was born 1750, filed his will in Burke Co, 1837, and died 1844. I now have a copy of his Will and also his Revolutionary War file. In his 1837 Will, he mentioned as Legatees, the children of his deceased son, William, but your Melissa Elizabeth's birth date doesn't correlate. William Senior's son, Henry married to Catherine in Burke Co 1800 Census, named one of their sons William. So, it's possible that Melissa Elizabeth was his daughter or grand-daughter. Henry filed his Will, 1844, >Burke>McDowell Co. None of the other sons, including John from whom I descend, named a "William Morris." Hope this helps, and if you do discover the name of her parents, I would be grateful for the information. Sandra

I copied this from a message posted by Robert W. King on one of the list I receive. If you are searching for military graves or other veterans information you may find this site and the links from it helpful. Jo Russell Hi folks! The V.A. has gone on line with info on where veterans are buried, including Arlington (since 1999) and other National Cemeteries. Approximately 80,000 names are currently on file. They hope to also include the locations of deceased military personnel where grave markers were ordered in the future. The site is www.cem.va.gov
