I think Swinfield Hill (b around 1743 or 1758--I have seen both dates) in Chester Co. PA, son of Robert Hill, who married Martha Van Bibber or Martha Vidder) in Burke Co. NC is the grandfather of the Swinfield Hill who married Nancy Mullins (on some lists possibly erroneously said to be Nancy Lyons), daughter of William and Jane Stanley Mullins of Franklin Co. VA. I think the lineage goes Robert Hill + Violet Linus > Swinfield Hill + Martha Van Bibber > William Hill + Nancy <Elizabeth??> Mullins > Swinfield Hill in Franklin Co. VA where he married. This line is so confusing this may be nothing more than a massive brain cramp on my part, but please let us compare notes. I am trying to put together an e-mail list serve for the descendents of Robert Hill. Anyone who is interested in pooling information, please contact me. It's difficult to reach many contributors to these threads because of the illegibility of the email addresses and because email addresses change frequently these days. Thanks and best, Fran Hill Northern California [email protected]

I am a gggggranddaughter of Swinfield HILL. I was unaware that he had a daugher named Martha/Patsy. I am trying to establish a Swinfield Hill research group that can compare note and confirmations to reconstruct the most reliable record of this family line. I need information on a Reuben BROWN. On the 1850 census for Cherokee County NC he is age 20 and living in the household of Thomas and Margaret BROWN. He could not have been the son of Margaret because she was born 1823. However we have always thought Thomas had a family before he married Margaret. I totally lose Reuben after that single census. He may also have had a sister named Louisa as there is a Louisa BROWN listed first on the birth pages of the family Bible. She also was much too old to have been a child of Margaret. She was older than Reuben and quite possibly married by the 1850 census. I am hoping that find Reuben and or Louisa might help me find information about the parents and history of Thomas. I do know that Thomas was born in Rutherford County nc and he married Margaret in Burke County nc Be careful who you choose to hate, it may be someone you love
Hello list, I am searching for the burial site of Martin Lee NANNEY. He was born October 02, 1834 in Union Mills, Rutherford County, North Carolina and died in Morganton, Burke County, North Carolina in 1863 from a disease acquired while in the service of the 58th NC Infantry. He enlisted in this unit in McDowell Co. and, also, married Jane Morgan in McDowll Co. on October 16, 1860. Any information regarding his burial location would be greatly appreciated! Dear Burke friends, Despite being near the end of the list in budget disbursements, The Burke County Library System, under the superior leadership of Steve Harlow, has really excelled in providing information to patrons of the system. Much can be attributed to the Burke County Genealogy Society. Their members have a warm and close relationship with the Library. In addition, Burke County, so rich in historical resources has discovered how best to focus its efforts. The various groups that work so nicely together are a cultural blessing. The Genealogical Society, the Historical Society, the History Museum of Burke County, the Burke Historical Trust and the Project "Picture Burke" folks have performed nothing short of a historical preservation miracle. The Burke County NCGenWeb page owes it's existence to these wonderful folks. In so many cases, their responsibilities have overlapped. The following is an example of their dedication to providing the very best in educational experiences: This Spring, the Burke County Library reprises the favorite series, *The ANCESTORS IN THE ATTIC program*. Unfortunately, this program is held in Morganton, NC and no handouts have been made available for those not able to attend. Live presentations provide material not able to be economically duplicated for distribution. Apologies to those living away from Burke Co. The schedule can be found at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncburke/burkegs.htm#AtticAncestors --Derick S. Hartshorn Burke Co., NCGenWeb http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncburke/

Who are you looking for?
This is the last call for Jack Hall. Jack has been a valuable resource for Burke County History and Genealogy. At one time, Jack was an active lookup volunteer and was a source of a great deal of information. Jack transcribed the cemetery listings from Broughton Hospital and was known to his friends as "Dead Chaser." His last known address was [email protected] I have no idea of what happened to Jack Hall. He just dropped off my radar screen. If anyone knows what happened to Jack (or Jack, if you're out there!) please contact me. While I am still trying to find Jack, I am also trying to find alternative replacements for the tasks Jack performed as a Burke County lookup volunteer. If anyone would like to perform volunteer lookups in any of the following ....: * Burke County Marriages (Ingmire) * Burke County Death, Birth and Marriage records 1913-1995 * Broughton Hospital Cemetery Records. ... we'd love to put you on the volunteer lookup list. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncburke/ncblooku.htm If you have other resources you would like to share with the genealogical public as far as limited lookups, please write me. --Derick
