    2. Phillip M. Heavner
    3. Kerma: There is an index to Burke County Land Grants on the Burke County GenWeb site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncburke/ In it you will find these grants: WALTON William 1800 3048 * WALTON William 1803 3404 * WALTON William 1803 3482 Copies of these may be obtained at the Burke County Public Library, North Carolina Room, 204 South King St., Morganton, NC, (828) 437-5638. There is a nominal charge. The originals of these documents are in the North Carolina Archives in Raleigh [where copies may also be obtained]. The library copies were a Bicentennial project several years ago. Due to the loss of public records at the end of the Civil War, relatively few old deed records can be found at the courthouse. As far as I know, all known pre-1865 records are in the state Archives. [Existing Deed Book A, in the Register of Deeds office, contains some re-registrations that were done after 1865.] Thanks for your interest in Burke County. Phillip Heavner Editor, Burke Co Genealogical Society Journal See our Society website, via the link on the GenWeb page. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, July 04, 2004 10:21 PM Subject: [NCBurke] Need address of Court House in Burke County, NC > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: Walton > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/5UB.2ACI/2774 > > Message Board Post: > > I need to get some records of Land Grants for William Walton > 1800-1803. > Could someone tell me where to write to ? > I would appreciate any help. > Thanks Kerma > > > ==== NCBURKE Mailing List ==== > NCBURKE-L [Co., NC] Mailing List - Sharing information on Historic Burke Co., NC > For further info, see http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncburke/ > Our thanks to RootsWeb.com for hosting this list and web page > >

Ancestry.com has done it again. The man I'm after is Obe H. Cobb. The index at Ancestry.com lists him as being in the Icard Township, on page 2A. Well, guess what? Icard Twp is divided into two parts, and Ancestry only has one part online - the wrong part. Apparently, the town of Hildebran is in the first part, which runs through page 12B. Ancestry takes up with page 13A.
