Surnames: Smith, Cook, Wortman Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/5UB.2ACI/2776.1 Message Board Post: Laura, My father, J.B. Smith was born in Burke County. My grandfather was Dixon Fred Smith b. 1907 in, I believe, Burke County. My great grandfather, Noah Anderson Smith b. ca 1874, d. approx 1928. I put away all my notes months ago and gave up on this crowd, so I'm going on memory here! Noah Anderson Smith married Laura Cook, and both are buried at St. Paul Baptist Church in Casar, Cleveland County, NC. Anderson Smith's death certificate lists his parents as John Smith and Rebecca Davis. I do know that John and Rebecca were never married. In the 1880 Cleveland County Census, I find Jno. H. Smith 28 Nancy 32 and Anderson Davis 7 in House #200. Any connection?

Surnames: Smith, Walker, Bumgarner, Hildebrand Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/5UB.2ACI/2776 Message Board Post: Recently received some info on my frustrating Smith line and thought I would post again after two years with hopes of finding more. Would love to have more info on John Smith Sr. and Jr. and their families. This is what I have for my line of John Smiths. 1860 census: John Smith Sr., age 49 Mary Smith, age 37 John W. Jr., age 13 Nancy, age 11 Martha, age 10 John W. Smith Jr.marries Nancy Walker, daughter of Wesley Walker and Agnes Bumgarner, in Jan. 1868. Can't find John Sr.and Mary Smith in the later census'. John Wesley Smith Jr and Nancy Walker have a son, John Wesley, born in Oct./Nov. 1868. The next time I find Nancy is in the 1900 census, widowed, with two children, Duccie and David, both born after 1890. Her son, John Wesley the third, marries Amanda Hildebrand in 1891, and states that his father is deceased, meaning his mother, Nancy, must have remarried after 1890 and had Duccie and David, but yet her last name is still Smith. Also, it shows on the 1900 census that Nancy had 9 children, but I am only aware of John Wesley III, Duccie and David. Whew! I hope someone can follow all that. Researching John Smiths is exhausting. I notice all the other Smith queries and know I must be related to someone out there!
