Butch, Sometimes I try too hard - from the new Marylanders to North Carolina book to every remotely connected book that I could think of. Next, on to the subscription genealogy sites that cost me my back teeth (I did find the whole family on OneGreatFamily with Robert Asa's everywhere). Now, why not just check the Sampson County Will Book even though he supposedly died in Duplin. What a simple idea. >From # 116 BUTLER, Robert 26 Mar. 1802 Wife Delilah Butler - negro woman Jean & negro boy Henry; lifetime right to plant. Whereon I now live, then to son Robert. Delilah was the daughter of John Royal b. 1719 in Pasquotank County, NC and Sarah. Reddick had a sister Rhoda Rhodes that was 2 years younger. Delilah Royal was married twice, first to William Rhodes. William was a Tory and his lands were confiscated in 1782-1784. William moved to Horry County, South Carolina. This marriage was ended, I do not know how. Delilah married second to Robert Butler of Sampson Count y, North Carolina. Both surnames, Rhodes and Butler can be found on early records from Isle of Wight County, Virginia. It just so happens that I have the Isle of Wight volumes so let me know if we chase them there. Hi Dee, Robert Butler was b. bef. 1703 in Edgecombe Precinct, Bertie Co., NC and d. 1769 in Duplin Co. His father MAY have been William. He m. Anne Wood ca. 1735 in Edgecombe. Their children were: Robert, William, John, James, Jesse and Charles. I would like to see if there is a will or other estate record for Robert. His middle name may have been Asa. I looked over your library and it seems you have several references that cover that time and place. I hesitate to ask for you to check a specific reference since there are so many possibilities, so if you don't mind, please just use your best judgement as to where to look. Warm Regards, Butch Butler Mt. Pleasant, SC
