Hi Kirby, That book that you mentioned is a description of tribes, their locations, migrations, wars, leaders, etc. and is regarding a period much earlier than you are interested in. In fact, almost every book that I own is far too early for your research. I deal mostly in the 1600s, 1700s and on a very limited basis, the mid 1800s. I'm sorry I'm no help. Yes, my husband's line from Bladen County, NC has native American influence. A father and son were Indian traders and both married Tuscarora or Lumbee women (in the 1700s). Dee For a detailed bibliography on the reference sources used for lookups, refer to this link: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncbladen/lookups.htm ----- Original Message ----- From: kirby To: [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, August 31, 2005 1:29 PM Subject: other books you have... hi, Dee I noticed on your website, that you have several NC-related books. I have some 'other' families I'm researching who are from NC... would you mind having a look, at your convenience? one book I saw was 7. NATIVE CAROLINIANS: THE INDIANS OF NORTH CAROLINA Theda Perdue, Division of Archives and History, North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources, Raleigh, 1985, purchased from Frontier Press, $5.00 I have a Cora Alice BILLINGS [1872-1948] who md George Washington COX [ca1872]; I have been told that Cora was Cherokee. I have found her parents' marriage bond [I think]: Robert H BILLINGS & Mary COLLINGS 16 Feb 1858, and I have found a few census records, though they get murky... the most difficulty I have is finding anyone among Indian Rolls [Dawes etc], and I know many who could 'pass' went on the census as white, etc. I'm wondering if your book, listed above, would help at all... my partner is quite interested in 'proving' any First Nation ties, as she is often asked about her heritage, based on looks alone. as you no doubt are also researching First Nation lines, do you have any 'clues' for me? I'm really just starting to dig on these NC roots, although I've been at this 'craze' we call genealogy for the better part of 2 decades... thanks! kirby in NC [email protected]
