    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HSB.2ACE/1626.2.1 Message Board Post: My CARTER family line is with JAMES CARTER b. 1776 married to wife #1 MARY McALISTER about 1795/1800 Cumberland; and wife #2 WINEFRED REECE about 1826 Cumberland. His father is JOHN CARTER b. around 1740 - 1750. I could not find a consistent match with your line. My family names are consistent over three generations as: James; John; Henry; George W. and William J. It starts to diffuse after that. I have found a Henry Carter in 1820 Cumberland (Captain Evans) living near my family line that I believe is related (a brother to James). It is highly unlikely my family is from the Thomas Carter line. There are no Thomas names anywhere in my family line 1750 to present day.. Thanks so very much, Mel

    3. Mel, I would be very interested in the source of the information about a Mary McAlister that you mention married John Carter circa 1795/1800. There was a Mary McAlister in Burnswick Co with land in 1795 who I have little doubt was a widow. Another was a taxpayer in Bladen Co in 1784 ( Ibelieve her late husband was from the Isle of Arran in Scotland).. Another Mary b. in 1743 immigrated to the Cape Fear, NC from Scotland with Coll McAlister, a tailor, b. 1750 in Sep 1774 but it is improbable that it could be her. The Mary McAllisters in Cumberrland Co, by any spelling, (that I know of) did not marry Carters, but were too old or too young, or were married to others in the late 1700s. I have a great deal of information on the McAlisters who lived in that part of Cumberland Co that is now Harnett Co, NC and I would be glad to research this if you can locate the approximate site of where your Carter lived in 1800 or have any more defining information. (For example: If you are sure it was in in Captain Evans Militia District, that would help).
