Name of virus: W32.Badtrans.B@mm I continue to get pinged by this virus. Emails are coming to me from listmembers; not personally from listmembers, but somehow from that listmembers address. The emails are replies to very old archived messages or the email simply has the reply "Re:" with no body and a blank attachment. I think the Rootsweb server is infected, so many of you may receive this virus. Be careful. Jason Bordeaux
My system picked up the virus (W32/Badtrans@MM) and an underscore "_" before my e-mail address. My computer is now swept clean of this virus. The way the virus appears to work is to scour the victim's in-box for addresses. Another creative "trick" it uses is to add an underscore "_" before the name of the victim who may not even know the virus is there. Check your e-mail address book to see if you have a NEW e-mail address for yourself with an underscore "_" before your e-mail address. This keeps virus scanners from automatically sending a warning email (as McAfeewill) because the mail will bounce back. McAfee will screen for the virus if you have the latest version (you can buy the lastest version on on-line at www.mcafee.com). I don't have Norton so I can't say if it will. Unfortunately the virus may multiply without needing to open the message or the file by using the preview window in Outlook. So the rules are the same: Use a virus scanner, use the latest version, don't open attachments from people you don't know, be patient with the senders as they may not even know what they did.
