Detailed as scout December 19, 1862 and company muster rolls have him as absent on detail through October 1864. Volume I Samuel J. Taylor enlisted in New Hanover County at age 38, May 29, 1863 for the war. Present or accounted for through December 1864. (This one seems to the closest match for your ancestor) I won't forget.
