Dee......thanks for looking in Bladen. Maybe Cumberland will turn up something. One Tanner would be Samuel Tanner. One Wilkins would be Wiloby or Willoughby Wilkins. All accounts put Samuel in NC at some point after 1740 (abt. when he was born). Wiloby married Samuel's daughter, Nancy, so should also be "somewhere" in NC. Sorry about the bum leg.....good thing you're not a horse!!! Thanks for any help. *paula* in SunnyFlorida (and the weather is great if you like 90's, 90% humidity, and something like a breeze today....wheeeeww)
Paula, Nothing in Cumberland either, nothing in Testator's Index, nothing until Taxpayer's (# 10) that had a SAMUEL TANNER in Duplin County in 1783. Nothing in Duplin marriages or Wills, but a Samuel Tanner was very active in deeds (# 5). a land patent in 1783, sold land in 1785 (2)(witnessed by Thomas Tanner), and 1796 (2), and finally a mention of Samuel Tanner's corner in 1809 and 1810. Willoughby Wilkins is a figment of your imagination.
