    3. Dolores, My husband was assigned to Womack Army Hospital, Ft Bragg, NC when it was opened in 1958 or early 1959. When Womack opened the "old wooden WWII hospital" that filled the entire area across the street was used for hospital personal. All of the old wooden buildings are gone now. That area is filled with many other modern buildings. However, parts of the old buildings were used until a few years ago. Sorry, you asked about Womack, which was named for Gen. Braxton Bragg, US Army. Gen Bragg's portrait hung in the lobby for the 40+ years the hospital was open. He had full face hair that has not been allowed for many years. Oh, God, did I just say 40+? I was married in the chapel down stairs, by Chaplin Sloan when it was new. I felt a bit sad when Womack closed last year and patient care is being provided in a new brick medical center about 1/2 to 1 mile away. If you have any specific questions email me. 3. Doris - Thank you for responding. I was born in 1933, pre WW II. My father was stationed at Bragg and I was born in a large dark red brick bldg. My father sent my Mother a post card w/the hospital on the front. She marked it as "Where Dolores was born." I understand this bldg is now a hdqtrs for something?? I'm going down there (I live in MD) next Tuesday. Looking for my grandparents' original homesite. They were one of the property owners that the US Government bought out in 1918. Thanks again, dolores wacmaw wrote: > Dolores, > My husband was assigned to Womack Army Hospital, Ft Bragg, NC when it was > opened in 1958 or early 1959.
