Dee- I am about ready to seek more info. I was there too briefly in July and could not complete my research. I was driving around near Fairmont, N.C. in Robeson County (originally Bladen, I think. ) I found a land grant to a Herring on both sides of Ashpole Swamp. I was led to believe that the town of Ashpole now is Fairmont. Do you have any info on Ashpole Swamp? I never made it to Bladen County, as I got lost in the library in Lumberton and ran out of time. My Herrings-John L, Anthony, and Samuel were in Isle of Wright, Va. and then Samuel moved on to North Carolina. I show him dying in Lenoir County, N.C. But his line( Michael and William Giles were in Robeson County. Do you have info on any of these Herrings? The original one-John Herring came into the Jamestown Colony in VA.from Wales.I do not know the reason for the Herrings to come to N.C.-but I think it was for land. Later they went to Mississippi. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
