    3. Hi George, We were on a real roll there for about an hour and then the bottom almost fell out. >From Book # 513 SMITH, SAMUEL m. His mother was Joanna Council (daughter of James Council and Jonna Willis). He was in the battles at King's Mountain, Cowpens, and Guilford Courthouse. Later, he became a major in the militia and was a soldier in the War of 1812. McCall, II, 113. >From Book # 663 STEPHEN SMITH, a REV. SOLDIER of Bladen Co., N.C.; mar. Joanna Council, b. 1753; d. 1833 (dau. of JAMES COUNCIL, REV. SOLDIER of N.C. and his (2) wife Joanna Willis.). He mar. (1) Mary Parker, whose family had come to N.C. from Mass. They had 9 children: 1. Mary Ann 2. Sarah 3. Elizabeth 4. Aaron 5. David 6. Samuel White 7. Henry 8. Daniel 9. Joanna (1794-1893), mar. Capt. David William Baldwin. (Ref. "Hodges Council and His Descendants", by Judson Council.) I cried until I found this: >From Book # 776 SMITH FAMILY OF COLUMBUS COUNTY Stephen Smith, a Revolutionary Soldier is buried in Pierce Cemetery, Elbow Road, Columbus County and is said to be the oldest burial site in Columbus Co. His wife Joanna Council is buried next to him. He died (1784) (NOTE: Will is listed in Bladen County and says that his six children are not named.). This couple had four known children: James, Samuel Stucky, Sophia and Stephen. Samuel Stucky of Bladen County maried Mary Elizabeth Parker. They had ten children, including Samuel Whiteford (White) Smith who married Sarah Jane Baldwin. Other children in this family were: Joanna, Aaron, Fannie, Elizabeth, David James, William Gaines, Sarah, Mary Ann and Henry Jackson. Samuel Stuckey later married Anne Clark and they had four children: John, Christina, Catherine and Stephen Daniel. There is more to this entry but nothing pertaining to Samuel Stucky Smith. The entry was submitted by Janice F. Smith, daughter-in-law of Wendell White Smith, Sr. 124 Glenn Drive N.E., Milledgeville, GA 31061 I looked up their phone number and will send that privately: Smith, Wendell & Janice 124 Glenn Dr NE Milledgeville, GA 31061 Tomorrow I will see if I can find William Gaines in something "legal". I am a descendants of William Gaines Smith--I through his daughter Mantha (or Semantha) Adeline Smith, who married Andrew James Council--my great grandparents. They lived, at least for parts of their lives in Bladen County or Columbus County. What I would like to have is evidence (1) that William Gaines Smith was a son of Samuel (Stucky) Smith; and (2) that Samuel Smith was a son of Stephen Smith. I need this information to substantiate a supplemental membership is SAR (I am a member through James Council). Can you help me with this? Thanks, and have a fine afternoon. George
