Perhaps were talkng about the same John. John had a brother name George Benson who was the high sheriff of Bladen county. John himself was what was called an "entry taker" in the clerk of courts office. His job was to record land deeds in the books. I presume this is the same thing as a "clerk of court". On many deeds from about 1880-1900 John signature appears with the initials "CC". I presume this is clerk of court. Do you know when John married Ann Clark? Also do you know her parents?
