Sharon --- First - there areno silly/ dumb questions. We have all been there. We have only been in this crazy world for about 6 yrs. Just keep ASKING the questions. Records recording in first county are kept there (if available). A county that break off does not take records from previous. Bladen was the "Mother County" of many NC counties. Bladen county "burned" 3 times and most records were lost. The people at the NC Archives in Raleigh are great people. You have to register with them when you enter. They will do all they can to help you with your research.. It helps if you can have your family pedigree chart and people you are looking for etc. As far as John Owen is --- Dee may have the "Private Manuscript Book" and I am sure there is something there - again it may not be your John Owen, then it may be. We hope to se the wonderful person DEE in October on our return trip. Keep asking and looking.
