I am researching several NC families on my husband's side. We live in Oriental, NC. His families are from Craven, Jones, Duplin, and Beaufort counties mostly. We are interested in finding out more about a Ruel Wetherington/Witherington who married Catherine Dail Summerlin (widow of Jesse James Summerlin). Ruel is my husband's 3rd great grandfather. Ruel was born in Craven County. He enlisted in the Union Army for the Civil War and was captured at Bachler's Creek, along with Jesse Summerlin. Jesse was hung as a deserted but Ruel was sent to prison camp in Virginia. The book I am interested in is #132 the NC Home Guard. All of the men listed below were associated with Ruel and I am wondering if any of them are listed in your book. I know that some of them were in the Home Guard at one time. Thanks for your help. I am in no hurry for a reply. The men I am looking for are: Ruel Wetherington-captured sent to prison Jesse Summerlin-hung Alexander McCoy-captured sent to prison William T. Heath-deserted Jesse Heath-captured and deserted George Hawkins-captured sent to prison George Daughety (Dorrity)-captured, unknown Hardy Daughtery (Dorrity)-captured, unknown Lonne Heath
