    3. Good Morning, Jack. Thank you for your good wishes. The Sampson chatter has been because of Bradley West's generosity in sharing his cemetery books, but I think your Thomas will be found in Cumberland. Go to: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nccumber/cemeteries.htm then scroll down to Eastover Township Cemeteries and then to McPhail Cemetery. Also look at the Culbreth Cemetery, and Geddie Cemetery, >From # 150 Do you have all the information from the Sampson Heritage Book concerning Thomas and Mary? They are included in entries on other families and there is no mention their parents. In part: paraphrasing or short quotes. DANIEL MAXWELL AND JANNETT MAXWELL CULBRETH 587 "...William was the son of Thomas Maxwell, Sr., who died November 15, 1827, a judge in Sampson County from 1809 to 1812 according to court records..." Note: William and his wife Sophia are "buried in the cemetery currently known as Starling" as are a number of connected families. ROBERT WILLIAMS 1144 "...The close relationship between this Williams family and the family of Thomas Maxwell and Mary McPhail who moved from Sampson to Cumberland County about 1806 led to the joint migration in the late 1820's and 1830's of most of the children to southwest Georgia with the descendants of only two of the Williams children remaining in North Carolina...". Note: At least three of the Maxwell children married Williams children. >From # 116 paraphrased In the Will of Drury Autry, dated 15 April, 1808, is a mention of a debt due by Thomas Maxwell. Thomas Maxwell is also one of the executors of this Will. In the Will of Alexander Carrell, dated 25 Feb. 1827, Thomas Maxwell is an executor. >From # 175 (two listings for the same man) MAXWELL, Thomas, born 1765 in Duplin County(?), NC, died in 1827 in Cumberland County, NC, married once, to Mary MCPhail, c1780 in Cumberland County, NC. The Ancestor file number is 17080. Note: this file number also includes Alexander Maxwell (b. 1823), Daniel Maxwell (b. 1788), Murdock McKinnon Maxwell (b. 1850), William Maxwell (b. c1735 in New Hanover County, NC and died c1784 in Duplin), and William Maxwell, Esq. (b. c1700 in Ireland, lived in New Hanover but died in Bertie County). MAXWELL, Thomas, born ?, in Scotland, died c1827 in Cumberland County, NC, lived in Sampson County, married once, to Mary McPhaill, ?, Cumberland County (?)NC. The Ancestor file number is 60061. Let me know if you are interested in the complete (incomplete) information in this book on the above people. I believe that copies of the ancestor files ay be gotten from Raleigh: www.ah.dcr.state.nc.us/sections/archives/arch/mail.htm Dee For details on sources used, refer to this link: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncbladen/lookups.htm ----- Original Message ----- From: John Maxwell <JMAXW@webtv.net> To: <d7777@worldnet.att.net> Sent: Sunday, December 23, 2001 8:36 AM Subject: Thomas & Mary McPhail Maxwell Dee, First let me say have a safe and happy holiday season. See alot of Sampson cemetery chat on line lately - maybe you can steer me towards solving my brick wall. Thomas & Mary lived the latter part of their lives in Wade, NC ten miles north of Fayetteville. They moved there from Sampson Co around 1809, Mary died in 1820 and Thomas in 1827 - his will was processed in 1829 in Cumberland Co. I have found several of their children's graves in Sampson cemeteries, but have had no luck in finding theirs - thus my brick wall. They are my ggg grandparents. Can't verify their Parents. Any help greatly appreciated - I think you are becoming the patron STE of those of us who are constantly searching for our roots. Soooo, I dub you STE DEE! Sincerely, Jack Max John M.
