Thank you, Richard for really good information. At least we found Zelphenia (pure luck because she wasn't in the index, but she was in the cemetery listed just before New Hope Church Cemetery. These cemeteries have the same directions.) . >From # 197 REGISTER CEMETERY Zyiphenia [sic] Byrd Rackley, born ______, died 01 Sep. 1884 Remarks: Aged 32 years. Wife of D. F. Rackley [Note: D. F. Feb. 8, 1872 - d. June 26, 1948. Pearsis or Pearcy Byrd: b. sometime between 1830-1855. Died a young woman before 18 yrs. old. Zilpha Byrd who remarried a Cummins and died about 1807. I would be interested to know if you come across any Byrds/Birds who died prior to 1800. Already found: I am a descendant of William Byrd and Jemima Murphy of Duplin County. They, along with a son, James F. Byrd, and a daughter, Mary S. Byrd, have markers in Oak Plain Presbyterian Church Cemetery just inside of Sampson County. Markers also mention a William Byrd and a brother, Benjamin Byrd. I believe the actual burials are just down the road in Duplin County and only the marker are in the church cemetery. There is also a Zylphenia Byrd who married a Rackley. She is buried in Sampson County in an unknown cemetery very near New Hope Baptist Church. Whatever you can do will be greatly appreciated.
